TROLL
One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument

If you have been a member as long as I have you know the types all too well. They hijack threads and spew their versions of morality while avoiding the topic or lending anything of real value to the discussion. Once upon a time I'd go after them with facts but quickly realized it was a waste of time. I've seen members here get baited into whole off topic discussions and they go down pointless and meaningless banter. Some good standing members will end up with post removals or worse the Ban hammer comes down...

It's not just here on ATS but everywhere you look these days. Read any Youtube or CNN etc comments section. There is no way to avoid them, but one could simply ignore them. If you don't feed the Trolls they generally will get bored and go away. No need to entertain their worthless and off topic contributions.

Sheeple
1. People unable to think for themselves. Followers. Lemmings. Those with no cognitive abilities of their own. All the teens were wearing bell-bottoms because they were sheeple.

2. A individual that forfeits their right to choose in favor of inclusion in group-think and what is viewed as popular or elite group. Allowing the influences of different forms of media and group members to hold great sway in the formation of attitudes, behavior and opinion. To accept the group mentality and opinion as fact without examination. Not only to be told what to do, but accepting the paradigm of thought as absolute thereby removing the weight of personal responsibility in the making of decisions.

Ah yes...

The proverbial Sheeple. This phrase gets tossed about like popcorn. If you don't accept one particular "Group Think" then you are classified as sheeple for being subservient to another form of "Group Think" Hypocrisy should accompany that definition IMO. If accused of being a sheeple. Just remember, you are on the same sites as they are and have access to the same information as they do and are no less than they are.

Disinformation Agents
Disinformation agents are people working for the organized stalking and electronic harassment perpetrators whose job it is to prevent the truth from getting out. It is important that those who have only recently realized they are being targetted understand that slick and seemingly helpful and credible people do exist who are working to prevent our members from ever seeing freedom again.

I'm more than sure they are among us everywhere on the Interwebs. But paranoia seems to run rampant among some, If you suspect there is a Disinfo-Agent about there again like the Troll ignore them. Do your own research and post what you are interested in. Don't let some people or organizations redirect your interests. Also another aspect of this situation is to remember oftentimes those who accuse others of being a Disinfo-Agent are simply those who disagree with another persons view and or stance and simply try to discredit them by that accusation.

Or are you like the rest of us? People who surf the Interwebs and enjoy a wide variety of topics and discussions, while respecting others valid opposing opinions when they are offered on topic related posts and replies? I will often star a post/reply even when and if I disagree with the posters views/stance if it is well written or thought out. Also, If it makes me question my beliefs or stance. This is how I learn.

What gets under my skin are those who will post their opinions even if it flies in the face of the Majority "Group Think" but are not happy simply posting their views. They apparently feel a need to go after another poster like a Pitbull and all too often the other poster takes the bait. Then there we go again.

They dislike "the elite" and "the powers that be", but in calling us sheeple all the time they talk just like them.

I've always said that extremism exists everywhere, even in our community. We have the woken up, the just woken up and the people who think the unwoken or just woken are hurting the cause. Which is the biggest load of BS I've heard since reptilian hybrids .

These people should be doing everything they can to bring new folks into the fold to understand the lies and tricks of the system. The more of us, the less of them, the better we are off.

Great thread. You forgot "disinformation artist". Someone who knowingly and deliberately creates and/or manufactures disinformation (or HOAXES) and then peddles it as truth with zero evidence to support the disinformation. Then instead of producing any evidence, they attack you and demand that you prove otherwise.

Good point, I know I allow myself to get caught up in going after those who seem only interested in either derailing the thread or bringing down the level of the discussion. I like to think that I am getting better at just putting out some good information and ideas.

I think these discussions are moving us forward, that even though often no one makes a concession, that the reality stays in the back of our minds, that we realize when we are wrong about things, and we work to improve our understanding. I see a progression of ideology, how ever slow.

I think we are all Troll / Sheeple / Disinfo at times. Too much Coffee, a bad day at work, a genuine Troll bothering you in a discussion, Spouse just tore your head off and we all slip up now and then. It's the Human way.

I think we should all experience both sides...


Sometimes we get caught up in group think because it gels with our own opinion in one way or another, yet we really didn't think it through - hence a troll comes along and let 'em have it...soon to follow is the realization that what we really thought was righteous is truly asinine.


So, good for the 'troll' for the enlightenment, and good on the member for realizing they dropped the ball.

It doesn't always work out that way, but when you are dealing with emotions and opinions, things get crazy...and make no mistake - TPTB here wouldn't have it any other way.


You can go to just about any conspiracy site and get most of the same info there as you do here...but what this site does best is to set rules in place to ensure good SEO/SEM, and then allow the members to figure out how 'walk that line' and push the fold.


So, I understand the negative connotations that get attached to term Troll, Sheeple, ect., but in truth they are a much needed aspect of this site.


Would anyone here really want a sanitized site and the complacency and blandness that comes with it..?

Good post Slayer.

I enjoy getting different viewpoints on things. That's why I like ATS. I often star the posts that make me look at things in a different perspective. Even if I don't initially agree with a poster, I still try and see where they are coming from, it helps me learn. I try not to label people on here though. If there is a "troll" in a thread, I just ignore them, if someone is a "sheeple", well then that is their prerogative isn't it? And if someone doesn't agree with me or is passionately trying to refute a claim, well that doesn't exactly make them a "dis-info" agent imo.

I sit and think about this from time to time. I truly want to be an active member and a honorable contributor to this site. I have a few issues with this. I have spent many hours researching information and spending time on my replies. Only to be ignored or attacked. I am like you I often star people for their effort they put in to their post, even if I disagree. This has gotten to the point where now unless I am really into a thread I rarely look up any info or provide any links. The way I see it, If they do not spend the time to back their point of view up, then why should I.

Now I do not want to sound like I am whinning, but this is where ATS truly tick me off. I have written many a rants on people getting their facts straight. I have read a many of rants on the HAARP one liner. Not to stray too far off topic, I might get called a disinfo agent.. Sorry

I am just going to keep on a trucking. If I am interested in a thread subject, my replies are a little better.

PS. I really was stalked by a member. He showed up at several threads. I felt I was being harrassed. He kept attacking my views with little "back up" evidence. It really made me feel uncomfortable.lol You can see if you take the time to look. I think he is a Bush cronie...
