So today the program was to migrate to Microsoft servers. In doing so, it crashes. Well it IS Microsoft.

However, could this be a ruse to re upload a new program that it capable of being monitored, and less secure than the original program. After all that is what Microsoft is good at right??

Time to find a new VOIP program.

Although people all over the world are going mad.

Coupled with the Play Station online debacle it just shows how much we are becoming reliant on internet comms. And that without them it's just back to the 80's and bad hair do's!!

hold on, you thought skype was secure? lol

i can confirm skype is down, but I wouldn't be too worried. Anyways, all communications, all of it, is tapped by the NSA. If you communication goes over cell networks, or phone/internet networks, the NSA has unfettered access to it.

A hell of a lot more secure than Microsoft etc! although I could be thinking of Blackberry!

Still would not put it past BG to do something. After all he is confirmed NWO

I was not happy when I saw Microsoft bought skype.

I am not a fan of their products since it seems they can't make one that works properly for the life of them.

If they own it now, it will only get worse, crash more, freeze up and probably not work period

I am on skype now so it seems to be working fine...for the moment.

it was weird, I was on it, and it just disappeared as if my computer was about to shut down. Now it won't even open.

My mates lap top is the same. However another is fine.

Why would this be so patchy?

Lots of Tweets from Japan, and Germany. strange!

You know, I'm no fan of MS either, but of course without them i probably wouldn't have a job. But, I'd like to see people saying stuff like that, install and run windows 7 for a bit. you can say all you want about their past products, and for the most part it's true.

I'm a mac owner, I use various distros of linux personally and at work, and my main box is windows 7. As of installing 7 on launch night i have had ZERO problems. Not a single crash, freeze, slowdown, nothing.

Anyways, I'm not a big skype user but MS buying it probably doesn't bode well for most users. Those people who own xbox 360's though, will probably get a skype client at some point, if they don't already.

I am a total Mac fan! I am not a Windows fan at all and W7 is a wanna be Mac OS
It looks alot like Apples OS. That little color wheel, stole the wheel from Apple and used color!

I had Windows 7 on my laptop before it died in a year and I did not like it at all. It crashed too many times.

I will be getting my new Mac next week and I can't wait! I have been on my roommates HP laptop and it is driving me mad! I had Apple computers for years and NEVER had a single problem with them, ever!

I use skype a lot but it is hard on this computer because it likes to crash and freeze up and then it crashes everything running. It works sometimes but when it starts to act up I have to close it. Again on my Apple I never had issues with it.

If you knew me you would know how big of an Apple fan I am and how nobody can convince me otherwise to use and buy a PC again lol I should work for Apple's marketing department

Skype is one of those timid programs that had its beta rushed, and was flawed from the beginning. While I'm sure my webcam is capable of being ghosted by outsiders [which is why I disconnect mine when not in use], I don't see a particular conspiracy here.

Right... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand wrong. It's a bit of both.

The NSA has no way to know what data that is being sent and received is. So in order for them to record VOIP, it has to be through a VOIP that they have a partnership with. (Or the server you connect to is owned by them.)

If you had a VOIP system, that encrypted the data packets on the way in and out, and wasn't huge, they would never find your communication.

The ISP, wouldn't even know what that data was, they wouldn't even know it existed, because the actual bandwith that is being used is virtually null.... So essentially they can't see what they don't know is there.

I.E.

VOIP that is setup on private servers would be indeed safe, unless say NSA is in Cahoots with Team Speak, and team speak is sending the packets to the NSA saying, here are our VOIP transmissions, you would be safe.

This would essentially have to be a worm inside the VOIP program of your choice, and as such... we can tell what is and isn't safe.

Teamspeak is safe. The data only goes to and from the server you connect to. If your server is hosted by you, you can be 100% sure of your privacy.

(Not all programs are safe, people have been busted on things like Ventrilo... again though... that is on rented servers, not private ones.)

I doubt skype ever was safe, since it's linked right into the regular land line phone systems too....

If you are worried about them listening to you, you need to host your own private VOIP Servers, with software that only sends and receives to and from the server. You can check this by checking your incoming and outgoing connections actively while running only that program.

Hope I helped a bit.

Whoa. That is pretty weird, and they have like spoof style names.

JohnySeagull? Sounds like a bot in TF 2.

Oh, and ... X AVI 1000. Also like a randomly generated fake name.... No hint to creativity, no semblance of uniqueism.... just straight up suspect ass names.....

Maybe you are just a third persona disinfo agent!!!

Ahhhh is NOWHERE SAFE!!

But anyway, it seems the outage is patchy, even between computers sharing a common IP.

No reason why, and its just all very strange!

I mean, if this continues, we might have to go back to using......gulp. yahoo! messenger!!!!!

or even WORSE, I.R.C.!!!!
