A study of sorts

There are lots of quotes by famous people about the Marines. But in a discussion we had at work today it struck me and a few other guys that we aren't really sure of what the general public thinks about us, whether at home or overseas. Sure we know we're supported for the most part, and we love you for it. But what is your impression of Marines, individually or as a whole? Why do you think we so different? I am putting this up at several forums to get a broad response and collect the answers after a month or two of exposure. I am looking for impressions, feelings, thoughts about the US Marines.
