Exactly. Last night we watched the show on Discovery channel about the storms in April. And they kept saying that people just kinda stopped paying attention to the sirens that kept going off. And after a while they just kinda thought 'whatever' and just kinda dissmissed them

I live in Tornado Alley (Central Texas) please know I am not dismissing anyone, but folks, if you live in Tornado Alley please always keep a heads up when you hear a siren. And keep any eye on the weather reports.

Please be safe everyone, and know that Central Texas is sending out lots and lots of prayers.

I can agree to something you said in this post; most people take warnings and sirens for granted.

Here in Memphis, even with our recent 'deadly torndos and flooding', so many people went about their day oblivious to what was going on..most didn't even know about the flood until FEMA officials knocked on their door.

When tornado sirens go off, you can still hear people gathering and socializing outside, not taking cover as if there were no sirens.

What is crazy is that when we have casualties as a result from these incidents, the local people say, "they shoulda warned us!!"

Or when firefighters and policeman have to risk their lives trying to rescue the people who ignored the warnings,

i seriously doubt that this was the issue in Joplin, but it happens here a lot in Memphis.

FYI, I just heard a possible funnel cloud at 15th and Main on the Jasper County law enforcement feed on the RadioReference scanner stream.

With that dreadful amount of damage shown from the helicopter it almost seems inevitable that the death toll might not rise looks like hundreds of houses were taken out and the tornado took out a swath of the town a few miles long....

Not to mention the various industrial and commercial buildings completely destroyed as well!. Most of these may have been vacant at the time of the tornado hitting. That is one thing that could be considered good
with so much utter devastation.

Could someone please repost the link to the Police scanners? Also another link to the storm watchers if possible?

More like a couple of 1000 houses. And the whole town is only a few miles wide, so it basically wiped out the whole South end of the town from the West side straight through and out the East side and then some.

The lady from the Red Cross quoted earlier said 75% of the town is destroyed. I think that is about correct, becuase the business part of the town starts at about 4th street and ends at 32nd street. The damage is pretty bad from 7th to 15th, and from 15th to 32nd it is a total loss, so basically there are only a few blocks of the business districts that were not majorly impacted.

In that same area is 100% of all the apartment communities. All of the Apartment communities are on 15th street, 20th street, 26th street and 32nd street. All took major direct hits. The majority of the population of Joplin will find itself homeless this morning, and an even higher percentage will find themselves jobless this morning.

Be sure to refresh the page and reload he player every now and then, it seems to have some bugs if you listen to it for an extended period of time.

If I lived near this town, and my own home/town wasn't destroyed, I would spend every ounce of my free time helping out, God knows that these people need as much help as they can get! (Including all people affected by the tornadoes.)

As it stands though, I can only pray for them and send positive thoughts/energy their way, because I live in Northern Michigan.

Thankyou so much for all of your on the scene reporting, I know that this is something which is going to take all of your strength to make it through, stay strong and the storms are again ramping up and from the local reports it is far from over as we may see more wide spread storms upon us in the coming days.

Butter Cookie I totally agree with you.

I count myself very lucky, the local weather teams here are excelent. They break into regular tv and stay on air until the threat passes. One station actually stayed on air late at night and took a hit from a tornado.

It seems these storms are develping quite fast and really hard. Watching Good Morning Amreica today, you could see the clouds becoming dark again. Fox News is reporting another storm is rolling in right now (9:22 AM CST)

Please everyone stay safe, listen to the warnings and know my prayers are with all of you.

Me my son and daughter were just pulling out of Joplin when the tornado warnings came...
we live 70 miles northwest of there, Joplin is the closest big city for shopping and such...

We got home about eight... just in time to see the first photos on the local news...

as for the local news 89 dead more than 2,000 buildings destroyed, still a large number of missing persons...
The governor announced this morning it will be several more days before we have final numbers...

By the way... another big cell just past over us, headed west towards Joplin... no twisters yet but there are reports of half dollar sized hail...

Got it, that was why I asked for a new link as I listened for HOURS until late night and it did begin to glitch.

Am going on now, I am with everyone and if anyone needs some support and yet do not like to post in threads, U2U either me or getreadyallready as you are not alone, and know that we are here for you.

I realize that many will be listening along but it is good to read written reports as well for those who cannot listen in. So if you hear anything exceptional feel free to post in this or any other threads that may be happening on these serious storms battering the Midwest today.

I'd rather take this up with you! Here is a scripture for you: "Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged"! and that is exactly what you are doing! The bible is very clear in saying the mind of GOD is NOT the mind of man. Are you claiming to know the mind of God?

Do not insult the people who have been afflicted with this horrible tragedy by stating in a very pious manner that they deserved this! If you are a Christian, your heart should be filled with compassion and empathy NOT judgement and criticism.

I suggest you take a good hard look at Romans and take some time for some real introspective research then comment on this thread.

Legalism is Faith without Love and that is exactly what you are displaying. I will be praying for you.
