i heard he was really born in Canada.

The Republican candidate will have been a Senator or a Governor. That's practically an informal requirement. Look at the electoral history of all the Presidents.

Fortunately for Obama, Ron Paul is also the GOP's worst nightmare.

You could make the argument regarding his outsider status in Washington but Mr. Cain has never held any political office and could be in way over his head with this race. I like what he says but he has about as good a chance as Rep. Ron Paul. I just don't see it. BTW, why all the negativity and hatred towards President Obama on ATS? Is it just another case where the people hate whoever is in the established "government".

it's because he is black haven't you heard the media?

but seriously, Obama is wrecking this nation, every decision he makes (except the UBL one, IF he was the one to make that call, rumors abound...) has been the wrong one. Look at what the fool is doing with Israel, Libya, Pakistan, China, Mexico, Brazil, Venenzuela.... He will go down in history as the absolute WORST president EVER

Didn't you say one of the reasons you think Cain is a good candidate is because he's black?

Interesting article here on Cain:

Who’s in:

Cain. Herman Cain gets the biggest boost from Huckabee sitting this one out. Herman is from the South, and can just about lock up the entire region as it continues to swing from the disastrous policies of the Democratic party back to the GOP fold. Cain is a solid pro-life, pro-marriage evangelical who would like to see the ban on homosexual service in the military reinstated and who’s one of the few candidates willing to speak openly about the dangers that Islam and sharia law pose to American freedoms. Cain has the chance to vacuum up most of Huck’s oxygen south of the Mason-Dixon line, and will fly high in Iowa and middle America because he is such an unapologetic, pull-no-punches social and fiscal conservative, someone folks have been waiting for for a long time.

And the prospect of a black conservative running against a black socialist may be just too hard for voters to resist. The left is now legitimately afraid of Herman, since the South Carolina debate boosted him into the upper atmosphere, and is accusing him of being “a racist with a black face.” Good luck with that. He’d turn Obama into a pretzel in presidential debates. Believe me, Herman Cain scares the pants off Obama and the Democrats. You get them to be honest, and tell you whom they desperately hope Obama does not have to face, it will be Herman hands down, nobody else even on the screen. The only other candidate they might fear would be Bachmann. But while they despise Michelle Bachmann, they fear Herman Cain. Cain will keep them awake nights. Tells you all you need to know. He gets the nomination, they’ll be in such a panic they won’t know whether to spit or wind their watches.

Herman Cain, one-time CEO of Godfather's Pizza, announces his candidacy for the Republican Party's presidential nomination.

And excerpts from another article here showing him as Chairman and CEO of Godfather's Pizza and serving on the board of directors of the federal reserve:

Filling the Holes in the AP's Description of Herman Cain's Business Career

Cain was still involved in Godfather's AND President of the National Restaurant Association when he had his famous encounter with Bill Clinton over the consequences of statist health care in 1994.

Total elapsed time of related searches (obviously, more time was involved in documentation): maybe 10 minutes.

A question for AP: Was it laziness, or do you want to make Cain look like a guy who “just” ran some restaurants (which in your smug ignorance you might somehow see as “easy”), when it's clear that the man is a high-powered, very accomplished guy in a variety of venues?

And from the Washington Post:

One more in GOP 2012 field: Radio host, pizza magnate Herman Cain joins growing race

ATLANTA — Herman Cain has run a pizza chain, hosted a talk radio show and sparred with Bill Clinton over health care. He’s never held elected office.

Also from the same article:

Cain supports a strong national defense, opposes abortion, backs replacing the federal income tax with a national sales tax and favors a return to the gold standard. He said President Barack Obama “threw Israel under the bus” because he sought to base Mideast border talks partly on the pre-1967 war lines, and criticized the Justice Department for challenging Arizona’s tough crackdown on illegal immigration.

“We shouldn’t be suing Arizona,” he said to cheers. “We ought to send them a prize.”

hmmm, maybe because 98% of them voted for the black man in 2008?????

Are you sure about that? It seems some people want to stack the deck with race cards. Where did you get 98% from? I find it hard to believe 98% of blacks voted. That would be a record for any group. Accepting your number it seems pretty obvious to me they voted for the democrat like blacks usually do. They did not vote for Clinton because he was black but you think they voted for Obama because he was black?

Seems like people are purposely confusing race and political affiliation. Maybe someone can tell me what McCain was going to do for minorities?

Glad to see the Republicans have a black guy who wants to keep talking about race. This should be fun.

Wow. 98%. That's high.

I doubt 98% of blacks are even registered to vote.

Also, Blacks traditionally support Democrats. Did a lot of them vote for Obama JUST because he was black? Unlikely. Was it a major factor? Of course. But with the gop throwing out any black person they can, they really are making fools of themselves. First Jindal, now this?
