RIP indeed...

This guy was definitely a staple of my childhood too. I was never really a huge fan of wrestling but I seriously doubt anyone growing up in the 80's didn't know who he was.

On a lighter note, this has to be the best interview... ever... hands down!

I just felt old for the first time in my life. I was standing in McDonalds (I know crappy, but my wife is pregnant and I'm having cravings) and 4 kids approximately 12years old... maybe 11... get in line behind me....

one kid is on his phone looking at stuff and asks another "Do you know how macho man randy savage is." The kid replies "no"... he asked his other friends too and they said the same.... I turned around and told him he was a huge Wrestler in the WWF when I was a kid in the 80s and early 90s....

He asked me what the WWF was... antother kid said "isn't that the thing with the panda bear logo"

I felt old... and I'm only 29

Uhhh.... wasn't the ultimate warrior gay? That man was a hell of a wrestler but when you are in a male dominated sport and you come out like that I'm sure it made all the guys who shared a locker room with him feel awfully weird. Begin to realize why he was always the one initiating the towel slapping ...

He was also a habitual steroid user and coc aine abuser. I used to idolize that guy, had the Ultimate Warrior squirt gun and everything. Funny how you grow up and realize the people you used to idolize aren't really what you thought they were.

/shrug

Does it matter? His name was ULTIMATE WARRIOR and as a kid I liked that name. That's it.

I feel old now as well, by proxy. I'm only 28 myself.

I think Andre The Giant has a pile driver waiting for Macho Man up in the big ring in the sky!! It was a different sport back in those days The memories are flooding back.... Sargent Slaughter, Iron Sheik, The Anderson Brothers, Ric Flair, The Million Dollar Man (now a minister).... Whoah!

good times

I remember Million Dollar man making some black kid dribble a basketball for a 100 dollar bill and him walking away laughing. The look on that kids face was afterwards priceless. RIP Macho Man, the of the favs.

I loved that his pink spandex dared you to call him not macho. The last thing you would see would be a flying elbow...

RIP Randy Savage.
Like so many wrestlers from the 80's and 90's Randy was a one off. He did some commentating for a while too.

In the 70's and 80's here in the UK we had Saturday afternoon wrestling on a program called World Of Sport. The Dynamite Kid, Davy Boy Smith and Dave Fit Finlay were all regulars on there.

Then wew started getting some WWF programs on late night TV. Then when satellite TV came in the WWF boom took off here in the UK.
