Whe is a dream more than just a dream?

What I'm curious about is this: If I had a dream (say, 20 years ago) and I remember it even now, is the experience disqualified from being considered real because I didn't experience it in this fleshy world of ours? After all, isn't a past experience nothing more than the memory of it?

I'd have to say a dream is more than a dream when it actually happens lol and only then. It's only happened to me once but I had a dream then the next day that dream played itself out exactly.

Funny you should mention this I was just thinking about a similar case.
I believe it does have merit.

Sort of on the same lines to a thread I did a while ago ATS Link

When you start recalling people's faces and voices that you've never met. And if you see them in real life and they tell you to run, run.

Interesting thought, but I don't think so. Using that logic, a lot of our memories (any that we remember incorrectly), aren't things, even if they happened, because we can remember them improperly or incompletely. That doesn't change what happened, just what we remember. I must say it is really freaky to have a dream come true btw. I would have to agree with the one poster, with the exception that I don't see it as reality when it comes true, more of a pre memory. Hope that made at least a little sense!

Edit to add: also, what about the memories of other people? Most people remember things differently, would that mean we all exist in our own universes simultaneously, yet are all interacting and intermingling with one anothers reality? Maybe that would account for all the dark matter and enegry out in space, since it isn't in our reality but someone elses, we can't perceive it. Yeah this last bit is a stretch, I know. Lol

When it's ajar! Damn...wrong joke.

On topic:
You have to go with your gut if anything I guess. I once had a "dream" that I definitely feel was not a "dream." When I came too and could still smell the smells from my dream and could feel the cool left on my skin by a breeze I knew I had experienced something that def. was not a dream.

But that's just my opinion.

A dream is not a dream when you are awake.
