You have just discovered that one of your buddies’ found the fountain of youth some 700 years ago and today he/she has come out with this secret. They tell you that they will take you to this secret fountain in 'blind fold' that will enable you to live forever, as you will never age from the age you are at that moment of drinking from the Fountain of Youth again.

Would you drink it, do you really want to live forever?

What would be the negatives and positives of really living forever?

TextThe Fountain of Youth is a legendary spring that reputedly restores the youth of anyone who drinks of its waters. Tales of such a fountain have been recounted across the world for thousands of years, appearing in writings by Herodotus, the Alexander romance, and the stories of Prester John. Stories of a similar waters were also evidently prominent among the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean during the Age of Exploration, who spoke of the restorative powers of the water in the mythical land of Bimini.

That depends if you want to be a god..

Genisis 3:22 then the LORD God said, behold the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now lest he put forth his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat and live for ever.

This isn't a immortally pill its simply slows aging the same could be said for any life extending procedure. You cannot live forever but you can appear more youthful.

yeah i understand the video, but the comment was more in relation to the text you posted above it.
and who says we cant live forever? i just know i wont do it in this flesh shell for the whole time, i mean if we live forever a change every now and then would be good (even doctor who knows that.), and would you choose to remember everything from one incarnation to the next? or would you choose to forget to make it a bit more fun.

If humans treated life as it should be treated (enjoying every day of life, appreciating your time, appreciating the earth and everything it provides us, and loving your fellow man) rather than the way we live now (destructive, divided, hateful, slaves to currency, greedy, etc etc) then yes, I would love to live forever. However, the current state of the world leaves me in a state of shame and sadness. I lost faith in our species a long time ago, and honestly, the thought of spending more than one average life time on this planet sounds horrible to me.

To make it clear, if money and corruption were not a problem, then I'd probably take immortality.

Most famous bible quote:

John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I don't, therefore, think that being desirous of eternal life equates with trying to replace God with ones self. Instead I think that God saw the potentiality of man to live forever in a degraded state would actually prevent man's true potential.

We would be god-like (we are, after all, made in His image) but without the true completion and fulfilment that He had planned and desired for us.

Yes I will take it in an instant, it may not be "immortality" but it will extend the quality of life.
I need to research this more, S & F.

And for the record I will take real immortality when it comes (provided the quality of life is good),
I am hoping that it will come in my lifetime.

I already found my fountain of youth. 47 and not a single wrinkle. Put into a lotion it reverses age spots. So maybe he is utilizing the principle behind sirutins?

Interesting question...

Well, I guess there's a couple things to consider. Since this is an offer to you and no one else, you must accept that everyone around you will still age normally while you do not. This means your spouse, friends, family, children etc will die and you'll still be youthful. I imagine this could cause some real emotional problems after a while. You would constantly have to make new friends, start new families etc. How long before your just tired of it? Also, you would have to move to entirely new locations every 20-30 years at least,as you would start to draw serious attention after a while.

Also, does this mean you are invulnerable? Could you put a bullet through your head and survive? If not, then I guess you could always off yourself if you just grew tired of life. It also means you's still have to be careful in your day to day life,as you could still be killed or injured. If you are indeed invulnerable, this would be interesting and fun for a while. However, danger is one of the spices of life, and without it things would probably get a little dull over time.

On the plus side, you would get to see the advance(or decline) or society and technology. I'd love the chance to go into space,to find out if time travel is real, meet extraterrestrial if they exist, buy a robot to do all my work etc. Who knows whats to come, but being around and healthy enough to particioate and enjoy it would be pretty cool.

I guess if I had the option or means to end my life if I felt I needed to,I'd take that deal.Otherwise, I'm not sure I would.

The only way that I would want to live forever is if it would be an eternity with God in Heaven. In His presence with peace, love, and eternal happiness

I don't want to live forever and I don't know who would. do you really want to be stuck in this reality for longer then you need to? honestly I would deny and accept my mortal death, as my life is a random coincidence.

What midlife crises issue are you dealing with now?

We will all lose our looks, and we will all get old, if we are lucky enough to do so.

There is no fountain of youth drug, one can't be developed, so I don't believe a word of that report.

PS

Inner beauty lasts a lifetime. A beautiful life well lived can leave a legacy that will last as long as the human race can survive, and that's the fountain of youth.

Obviously you aren't a middle aged female. .
That first wrinkle is a shocker! I actually did have the start of wrinkles about 5 years ago. Those are now gone. I see 30 year olds with wrinkles, so I am doing pretty good with none at 47! But I think my beauty regime contributes. And it wasn't just the sirutins.

There is always hope. And it seems that I have already helped things along with the correct regime. Now I look youger, but will I live longer? I guess you will have to ask me in about 50-60 years. At least I will look good when I die if not.

There is one bad point to all of this though... Menopause reversal. Arghhh!!!! How this happens, I don't know. But everytime I stop taking my supplement, my cycles go away. I start, and it comes back. The supplement is expensive so, I had stopped in the past. This happened 3 times! Now I have been on the supplement since I think October this time, and no menopause. I will not stop it ever again.

Death is the only thing we all have in common.

The fountain of youth still would not prevent accidental death or injury if it only ceases the aging process. One could still die, just not from old age.

Chances are something would get you eventually. Disaster, war, homicide, tragedy... or even suicide if the mind cannot bear the weight of loneliness that such a circumstance would surely bring. You and said friend may 'soon' tire of such familiar company.

My curiosity of what lies hereafter would eventually compel me to find out.

No longer having the fear of the human condition would be OK in my book provided the implications caused by physical harm could heal like the age I am now not the accumulated years. The downsides would be seeing loved ones pass, hiding your identity to prevent people from learning your secret and trumping tptb. The upsides would be having the opportunity to guard and care for lineage, and time to do everything you have always wanted would be there. The ability to be the best healer through years of knowledge.

It would be a bad thing if this happened and you had no means to care for yourself leaving you broke and homeless for an eternity. I think I would be upset if my friend told me this if my life was in its worst standing. Nothing like a depressed, bipolar, agoraphobic immortal. All I can think is "Death Becomes Her" where the women are stuck broken forever.

As far as the video, I think that prolonging the life and regeneration of human cells is a direction headed towards immorality in a manner. It will only be a matter of time yet I am sure the cost may make the rest of life unbearable.

Yes, god dies a thousand deaths every day, only when we face death can we truely be alive..
death comes on many levels..
en.wikipedia.org...
but god also goes though birth thousands of times a day.. so in the sense of just this world and 3d construct, death isn't same for god as it is for us..
but i believe he experiences it
