Six charged in U.S. with conspiracy to aid Pakistani Taliban

www.rawstory.com

US officials arrested three Pakistani Americans including two imams Saturday, charging them and three others with providing or seeking to provide "material support" to the Pakistani Taliban, the Justice Department said.

The defendants, five men and one woman, "are charged with conspiring to provide, and providing, material support to a conspiracy to murder, maim and kidnap persons overseas, as well as conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, specifically....

The Justice Department, clearly wary of the sensitivities of linking religious figures to terror groups, repeatedly made clear in its statement that the indictment does not charge or accuse the mosques of wrongdoing, and that the defendants have been charged based on their role in providing "material support to terrorism," and not on their religious beliefs or teachings.

"Despite being an imam, or spiritual leader, Hafiz Khan was by no means a man of peace," US Attorney Wifredo Ferrer said in announcing the indictment.

"Instead, as today's charges show, he acted with others to support terrorists to further acts of murder, kidnapping and maiming. But for law enforcement intervention, these defendants would have continued to transfer funds to Pakistan to finance the Pakistani Taliban, including its purchase of guns," he said.

You know it's amazing that only those determined by the FBI and CIA to be terrorists get charged and jailed for it. The US can terrorize, plunder, murder, assassinate, kidnap, money launder, drug run, torture and nation build all it wants to, and no one gets charged with anything.

The hypocrisy is staggering. Yeah, you better hope those "terrorists" never get their hands on a nuclear weapon to even the odds a bit.

There's not much to say really. They are accused of providing support to the Taliban, they seemingly got caught in the act of trying to do this, it's not really for me to judge since the term 'material support' is deliberately vague and the ins and outs of the story aren't really described.

I think a better question who is the US government to determine what groups are or aren't terrorist organizations? Just because they say? Just because they don't like a group? Just because it "promtotes" democracy but doesn't like the outcome, therefore designated the victor a terrorist organization? Even groups within its own border that have technically every legal right to exist, organize, protest, and act? Link 1 Link 2

Well, i don't don't want to give my tax $ to the terrorists group US Gov't to drop bombs on civilians and invade sovereign nations that aren't a threat and have not attacked us.

In that case, not transferring/forcefully donating funds is far worse than doing so, from a legal--but not from a moral--standpoint.

The hypocrisy makes me sick.

Not mention foreign going to Israel and countless other countries, plus armaments, etc.

We FUND terrorism more than we do anything else.
