I would miss the care-free days layin' in the sunshine drinkin' beer and chilin' with friends... and the internet.

All the things mentioned so far have been material in someway. Most of which, with some determination and ingenuity, can be reproduced to some extent. What I will miss the most is all my friends and family who didn't survive.

Well said. And yes, that is what we'd all miss the most, whether we realize it or not. My answer was somewhat more tongue-in-cheek.

I will miss the most music, chocolate, internet and e-books. I've got no dead-tree books.

The big thing is the "guarantee" for so much of life that our civilization provides;

uninterrupted electricity, pre-treated water supply, wide selection of groceries, sterilized and pre-packaged bandages, cities without walls around them, police with a clear-cut list of boundaries, etc.

But then there are the smaller things as well.

Sedation dentistry
my favorite Italian restaurant
the symphony

you know, the village square at Christmas; that kind of thing.

I'd miss reading ATS..

I think we would all miss living comfortably though... Most of us are not used to doing SH*T for ourselves.. We rely on others for our own survivability, sad but true. I know damn well we would all miss our cars/trucks :\

Texting
Downloadable porn. Heh, heh. just kidding honey.
flushable wet wipes.
clean sheets
water you can ASSUME is safe to drink
the assumption that a big "boom" in the distance is just a car, backfiring.

night clubs
Mardi Gras
Parades, sporting events and other bits of mass cultural made possible by a stable police-force.

On the other hand, what are some of the positives?

You local live music scene will suddenly become much more vibrant...

I would miss the overall feeling of security that comes with having some of the things mentioned. Like..doors and windows that lock!
