Did they teach you that after American independence the Americans decided to invade Canada? In 1812 it was touch and go for a while. The Americans downplay this, Britain was fighting Napoleon at the time, but after his defeat there were plenty of troops to spare, so they sailed them up the Potamac and invaded Washington, the burn marks can still be seen on the Whitehouse walls. The President fled. A little while after, they signed a peace treaty, and concentrated on opening up the western states instead. The boundries of Canada have been sacrosanct ever since.

The japanese beheadings that you refer to are most likely from WWII (The Rape of Nanking)...we were allies of China then (pre communism). As I recall wasnt the underlying theme of the Boxer Rebellion the control of the opium trade? There might be a parallel with Afghanistan there.....

We learned about the boxer rebellion in school. Maybe its more a lack of quality and funds rather than some conspiracy, that certain topics are dropped.
