Anyone know when it is or what the turn out is expected to be?
I know free speach is aloud, but this is rediculous, especially in a country with a history like germany.

Seems to be "Bochum" / Germany ?

The Federal Constitutional Court overturned an earlier court ruling that allowed the western city of Bochum to stop the far-right National Democratic Party from holding a June demonstration against the building of a new synagogue.

You forgot to mention that the NPD tried since beginning 2004 to demonstrate against the synagogue.
All courts including the The Federal Constitutional Court ruled the demonstration illegal and against law and constitution.

Now, they NPD changed it's focus and purpose of demonstration. While they tried to demonstrate against "another house of jews" in the first place they demonstrate against the waste of tax money.

The synagogue is supported by tax money and that's something that really isn't fair. Just a pitty that the NPD uses this as a cover to demonstrate but as long as they stick to the rules and laws it's ok. You can't forbid demonstrations against the waste of tax money, eh?

Wait a minute, i thought Nazi parties were outlawed in Germany
I know National Socialists are banned, but i thought it covered all groups preaching Nazism.

Nazi parties but not right winged parties. As long as you can't prove that they preach racism it's hard to outlaw those.

NPD is kinda the equivalent of parties like BNP in Britain and similar right winged parties like you havein France, USA, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy and especially in eastern European countries.

This whole thing is so funny it tells you that even in other countries of the world politics are still a circus not only in US.

Why do you think a synagogue is a waste of tax money?

No, please explain more details.

Germany spends tax to building and repairing churches (see Dresden) and there is no Neo-Nazi rally against this.

Most money is covered by donations and the church itself. The state gives little money as the Dresdner Frauenkirche is an important piece of culture and history. Similar objects such as the "Foundation for the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe" are state sponsored as well.

I think there wasn't even a neo-nazi rally against the sponsoring of the memorial. It is just against our principals to sponsor new churches without a serious reason. Muslim churches likely won't get a sponsoring as well.
But surely, the neo-nazis just use this waste of tax money as cover for their protests

By the way, 750.000 Euros for the Dresdner Frauenkirche had been donated by British people!
it's a friendly return that german donations sponsored the renovation of the cathedral in Coventry back in the 60s.

There is a serious and very simple reason to build a synagogue in Bochum /Germany: JEWS

I repeat again, state and religion is divided and the state just sponsors such things when it was e.g. a historic object like the Frauenkirche.

That there are Jews in Bochum is no reason that tax money is used to build a synagogue.

Sure they are free to build the synagogue on their own, with their money, by donations and various extra money you can get by the state(not talking about the usual sponsoring but about the sponsoring by the state that usually happens when somebody is building anything). And everybody who is threatening their aim to build a synagogue should be prosecuted as it's their free right to build one.

Jewish life in Germany is an important piece of culture and history.

Hitler destroyed the previous synagogue in 1938.

This is the reason to build the first synagogue in the city of Bochum /Germany after WW II.

I agree with Shoo. Germans have gone a long way for seperation of church and state. Building a new synogagaue using taxpayers money is a violation of this. if a religion wishes to build a temple, they should use thier own funds.

If the US govornment used tax money to build a Christian church in my neighborhood, you better believe Id get pissy about it. tax money should not be used to fund religion, unless it is restoring a historical landmark. Like, i can see US tax money used to maintain the old North Church in Boston, because thats a piece of history.

But if the govornment wanted to build a brand new modern church, thats another story. No history there, just religion being promoted by the state.

Anyway, Shoo, youre right, the Nazis of today are clever. they now work "around" the system, using euphamisms for thier hate. Like, david Duke, who tried to form the society for the advancement of European Americans. From any other person, id think it a very noble idea, after all, popular culture currently demonizes European heritage. Yet the fact David Duke, former Grand Wizard of the KKK, was promoting it, it wasnt hard to see between the lines what his real intent was. He instead tried a more clever tactic: marketing hatred in a more palatable package.

The national Alliance, the largest white supremecist org in the US, also does similar things. Like they went to Washington DC to protest against Israel's illegal occupation and human rights violations of the palestinians. This of course, is part of racisms new tactics. They really did it to protest the Jews and Israel period. They knew if they went around screaming "burn the Jews" they would immediately be pelted with garbage and violent assaults. However, they decided a more politically correct way to get thier views across. They hardly care less about the Palestinians, whom they consider subhumans like the Jews. They were simply using this conflict to spread thier hate.
