S&F for this post OP. I really don't have anything to add to this thread that hasn't already been said, except to say that I'm disgusted with our "leaders" and the Energy Barons in the world (Both Oil and Nuclear have failed humanity in about a 12 month span, and on multiple occasions each). I weap for our destiny.

Wish we could make the tptb , bp, congress, senata , president, and anyone else responsible, sit down to nice big bowls of gulf gumbo and force them to eat up

Sunday's News Journal article stated that if we look back at the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill in the years following the oil spill in Alaska's Prince William Sound, the herring fishery collapsed and has not recovered (according to an Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee report). The herring showed similar signs of illness as our Gulf fish— including skin lesions . Does it not make sense that this could happen here too? Obviously not herring, but all the myriad fish species.
University of West Florida biologist William Patterson is conducting research on the chronic effects of the BP oil spill on Gulf fish. He sees troubling signs consistent with oil exposure: fish with lesions, external parasites, odd pigmentation patterns, and diseased livers and ovaries. He theorizes that these may be signs of compromised immune systems in fish that are expending their energy dealing with toxins. Add to this the reports of dolphin miscarriages and dead immature dolphins washing ashore, as well as earlier reports of shrimp with oil discoloration under their skins, then I think our poor Gulf in in major trouble. Again, why people think all this is ok to eat is beyond my understanding !

i'm glad i havent touched any fish since i've heard of this...I always new it was messed up from the start, though to fish eaters try eating more seeds such as sun flower, flax, and almonds of that sort it has veyr similar nutritional value and is better than milk....anyways, it seems more and more things keep going down and the coverups are getting to be seemingly worse.. so to speak, i have a feeling everything is going to blow up in a way that all things covered up will released and people WILL KNOW THE TRUTH

When stuff like this happens, it makes me wonder how far in advance we'd know if a brown dwarf star really was headed our way. Nobody knows anything about anything. Scientists and self-proclaimed experts don't know jack. The best we can do is hold on for the ride.

Awesome article, be careful what you eat people!

I hate it, I live close to the ocean, and am very unsure as to whether or not to eat seafood anymore. Although most shrimp comes from Thailand and is farmed (although that might not be safe either now due to radiation from Japan), most if not all restaraunts do not tell you where their seafood comes from, other than "it comes from the ocean". between the radiation, the correxit, and the oil, not to mention a myriad of other nasty things in the water, eating seafood ain't what it used to be. I remember when I was in college, you could get raw oysters from the Gulf for 10 cents a piece. I dont think I would eat them now if you put a gun to my head.

Would you prefer Corexit or Cesium-137 in your shrimp today? Trust me, either is delicious but combined they're divine.

Scientists are alarmed and he is shocked. I don't know why nobody else is. Anyone with a little common sense knew this was expected. It would be a shock if this wasn't happening. I haven't eaten anything except farm raised fish since this happened. No other sea food and I love shrimp. They are beginning to farm raise it I read in Nevada. If something doesn't change there is going to be nothing safe to eat period. There is no way of knowing what damage is to be expected from the Japanese incident. I once had a debate with a green activist not that I am against saving the planet. However all of this makes my case when I said that that no matter what we do as individuals until the focus is placed on the major problems we are wasting our time. No one wants to focus on the major things because it will affect everything about our way of life.

This is very disturbing with all the contamination to our food and the new FDA food safety act I am wondering if there will be any safe food aside from what FEMA has stashed from Mountain House. Most people think I am a bit out there for stashing supplies but I can not help but say "better crazy than sorry". Thank you for making this thread I try to keep informed about our food and water supplies as it may become worth far more than money in the near future.

Sick Gulf Fish

The guy conducting the research better watch his back, watch what he eats, and get some bullet proof armor, etc.

so so sad. just think next time you order sushi and they look you in the eye and ask gulf of mexico or sea of japan? i imagine someday we will be charged extra for out of the ocean farm raised fish... would i like some seafood? it's not natural is it? i only eat synthetic now. best of all didn't i just read exxon paid zero taxes? probably to recoup the fines/cleanup cost for the vadez spill.so in a way, another thing they are making us pay for.first time in history old people look at young people with relief instead of jeoulsy. sucks to be you, later. tho we keep screwing the ocean we will be joining them sooner,

Wait a minutet. I was watching Fox news and I heard that 75% of the oil simply vanished. They didn't say what might have happened to it but I did hear that.

I used to live in Pensacola myself, not too far from the Blue Angel Recreational Park. It's sad to hear about the problems in my old home town.

Wish you the best of luck, and good idea about not eating the fish!

well done on your first thread

the corexit is the problem
that stuff is really bad news
americans should push to have it banned
it just sinks the problem
it does nothing to help the life on this planet
it should be banned

Hell, digging for oil in the ocean should be banned. Shipping it over the ocean should be banned. We really need to start viewing our land, air, and oceans as sacred. No one, and I mean no person, government, or private organization has the right to destroy our planet.

Thanks for the more direct link. Hopefully it will continue to link directly to the article, and not get removed....I am not certain how long an article has to be out there before it is archived and one must pay to read it....Should any other information come to light and be published I will add it to this thread.

Might be best to just let Mother Nature repair itself and stop screwing around with it, but I don't see that happening any time soon.. I think we've gotten to a point of no return, now the Earth is pissed off and we're all gonna have to deal with the repercussions.

Just wait till the flood waters in the mississippi river watershed bring their toxic soup to the gulf-its comming , with all the water from the poisoned midwest! Here up in n-wisconsin the government planes are still chem-trailing up storms, bringing more rain to an already flooded area, and its all heading to THE GULF!!-

So many animals are dying lately and there most be a reason. Maybe the gov't is hiding it or maybe they just don't know. Scary stuff.

I honestly don't know why they are shocked. What kind of scientists are they? Oil has been pouring into the Gulf, millions of gallons of Corexit have been sprayed everywhere and genetically modified bacteria have been introduced into the eco-culture of the sea. What the hell did they expect to find? Not to mention that thousands of people, including lots of kids, are dying and suffering the most terrible illnesses there.

Now that these guys have spoken out about their findings, however, I feel concerned for their safety. There has been a v high death rate amongs those who have 'discovered' things which aren't in line with the OS.

See: 'Many BP Whistleblowers Seem to be Dying Prematurely.'
