Dont forget what happened to the USA in V for Vendetta...
Described as the worlds biggest leper colony... and the ulcerated sphincter of asserica (USA).

This is pretty accurate *today* if you're talking about the parasitic criminal machine currently ruling our country.

Is it racist to have pride in your own race/culture?

No it is generally termed Patriotism something far too many have lost. As for race the worst you could get is racialism. Racism is where you believe your race is superior to others and they are inferior thus deserving of less rights.

Is it racist to want to preserve your nation in the way it was when you grew up?

No it is called Cultural Conservatism, this does not make one racist, racialist, supremacist, or even reactionary.

It is racist to protest against groups such as Muslims who have said all Infidels must die etc etc?

Protesting against those who call for your death publicly actually seems much better than the alternative where they take violent actions into their own hands through violence, intimidation, suppression, and racism/bigotry.

If a couple of your roommates were calling for the death of you and the other roommates who are not Muslim would you not want something done about it?

They are just a bunch of hooligans.

Sorry, not read all this thread yet but had to reply to this straight away; absolute bollocks! Exactly how many innocent people have EDL killed? How many terrorist attacks have they carried out?
Answer to both of them is none whatsoever.

EDL may have their faults but to liken them to murdering scum like the IRA, ETA, Al-Qaeda, UVF, BSO etc is pathetic and absolute nonsense.
edit on 7/5/11 by Freeborn because: spelling

Yup - Incidentally where are the UAF in all of this? How come you never see the United against fascism standing up against the fascist, militant Islamic types.

I agree with you Freeborn, this thread is rhetorical and has very little substance.

The EDL are not attacking Africans, Jamaicans, Polish, Chinese, Sikhs, Ukranians, Australians - they are simply concerned about the rise in militant Islam.

I'll also say that bloke who burned the Osama Bin laden figurine amongst the muslims has got big balls.

More to the point - why are the hard left not attacking militant Islam? - is not Islam an ultra-conservative women hating, gay hating, freedom of expression hating, liberal hating totalitarian fascist ideology? -in fact they are everything the left purports to be against, yet everywhere you look the left are in bed with Islamicists.

The left constantly trolls the nazi thug hooligan image to try and frighten people and demonise any opposition to Islamification of Western society.

Yet were the nazis not socialists? - were not the communist regimes of the 20th century far greater hooligans thugs and mass killers than the Nazis? - why do they not try to demonise groups by comparing them to communists.

Why is it that leftist/anarchist communist islamicist demos are allways full of thuggery, hooliganism ,violence - but the media never demonises themfor it.

EDL demos or Tea party rallies are usually peacefull, well behaved affairs - yet the media falls over themselves to attach spurious labels to them.

Im not sure what the deal is with these colours but they are my worst combination of colours, Because they are the same colours of manchester united. Who by the way have been the most succesful football team in britain over the last 20 years. Ie allmost every boy and girl around will support those colours.

It begs the questions....
Is it racist to have pride in your own race/culture?
Is it racist to want to preserve your nation in the way it was when you grew up?
It is racist to protest against groups such as Muslims who have said all Infidels must die etc etc?

The simple answer is it is not racist to do any of these things.

I am English, proud be be English and of my culture and will continue to preserve the culture and the ways of my nation and want the law to back me up on protecting my country from those who want change the culture and ways of my country.

Just watched it on tuesday. I also watched The Cube. I thought that one was better, BUT I think V had some interesting quotes. It illuminated the fight between freedom and rule.

I wonder if this need for control drives both the dictators and the freedom fighters? Could it be that V and the dictator are inexorably tied to each other for eternity and the sheeple, the ones who do not crave control (for whatever reason), sit on the sidelines eternally locked in the middle of this struggle? It's a cruel irony if we all depended on each other for our existence.

Whether to control ourselves, or to control through others, are they really all that different?

Potentially, yes. By race, do you mean Pict, Celt, Anglo, Roman or a combination of the four? By this I wish to illustrate that identifying with one's race is a tricky prospect in melting-pot island nations.

As for culture, well, there's nothing wrong with forming all sorts of sentiments as long as one keeps in mind that the excesses of colonialism, xenophobia, and many other less desirable traits are woven into Great Britain's cultural tapestry.

Identifying with and having excessive pride in one's race/culture could also indicate an overweening need to belong, or a dearth of personal characteristics one could take pride in.

Is it racist to want to preserve your nation in the way it was when you grew up?

Racist? Maybe not. Short-sighted and reactionary? Definitely. Take an active role in your community if you wish to play a part in how your nation takes shape.

It is racist to protest against groups such as Muslims who have said all Infidels must die etc etc?

Well, you're likely to run into the folks you're protesting against down there on the low road.

Racial pride is the most pointless thing in the world, it's divisive and unnescessary. It's taking credit for achievements you did not have anything to do with. How can you be proud of something you had nothing to do with?, being English is something that happened by chance, it's an accident, it's like being proud of being 6 foot tal, absolutely pointlessl.

Judge people by character, not by race, religion or nationality. Character is the only way a person should be judged.

is the english defense league against moslams?
or are they against big gov and corporate dictatorship, banker rule, etc?

until people realize, 'regular joes' are not the problem, none of these organizations will make a true difference.

the higher ups will laugh as the 'lowly people' fight it out amongst themselves for the scraps of food the 'masters' throw from the big peoples' table.

i was hoping they were fighting the scumbag [perceived] elitists ruling the world. the logo is great. but if they are battling moslams, its all a scam.

Way to go. Offend a huge number of members of ATS with just one post and insult their pride in their country.

Birth is a chance thing but I have had the opportunity over many moons to add to the the culture and ways of my country, and I am pride of my country and to say I am English. I have earned the right to be pride of my country like like I am sure that many other members on ATS are pride of their country and what it stands for.

Not knowing which country you hail from, but I guess it is one that people has died for in combat and were proud enough of what their country stood for to die for it and give you the the freedom to insult me and my pride in my country.

You make some very good points.

While researching the EDL I am finding that during their protests and rallys they are constantly saying they are not racist, and not Nazi's. In fact they often burn Nazi flags as a way to separate themselves from the idea that they are like Nazis.

It begs the questions....
Is it racist to have pride in your own race/culture?
Is it racist to want to preserve your nation in the way it was when you grew up?
It is racist to protest against groups such as Muslims who have said all Infidels must die etc etc?

That's the thing, ignorant people like the poster somewhere on this thread claim the EDL as hooligans or racist but they have members of varying races and religions who were born in England or brought up here as children and don't like the illegal immigrants who take everybody for a ride or promote extremism.

I know that V For Vendetta had a suspiciously short Theater availability. It never was allowed to be a major hit. It had little media attention despite some very big name actors. The themes were just to close to the mark for corporate media and the powers that be to allow full spotlight to the masses.

As for the UK I can not say if V for Vendetta was screened widely if at all. I remember hearing it had negative reaction from Brits because at the Climax of the Movie the Palace of Westminster (Big Ben) is utterly destroyed by explosives. Also the the same shun by corporate media most likely helped keep the lid on it.

What surprises me is how many times I meet someone who I would consider "in the know" about the way the world works etc, who would LOVE this movie.... yet have never even heard about it.

Spread the news!

Please note as a member of the EDL and also some one who has traced her family tree back over 500 years can I just say I am very proud to be English and feel ashamed that the only time this country feels it is ok to hang out our flags with pride is during royal celebrations .
You should be able to wave a flag at any time of the year and be proud not scared of reprisels or fear that some one of a different race or religion may take offence at the site . We dont mind if you want to wave a flag from your country or build a temple in honour of your religion all we ask is that you observe the rites that we the English can do the same xx
Be English Be proud xx
