Evening all. For the few of you who know me, you know that I'm typically not locked into any one area of discussion since there are so many fascinating topics here at ATS. The one exception is the conspiracy threads. Please don't get me wrong - I find them fascinating and am always left with some genuine food for thought, but I just don’t know enough about these matthers to make a significant contribution to the tread, so I read and glean whatever I can. With that said, something happened to me today that I am still pondering. I'm not one to shout "CONSPIRACY" without looking at all of the logical explanations but the timing here seems so bizarre.

I’ll start by sharing that I suffer from a chronic illness which, after trying many different combinations of treatment, including holistic, alternative and western medical, my doctor's came up with the correct cocktail which includes an alternate therapy and one big name Pharm medication. Although the medication is Classified IV, I have never had any thoughs about abusing it and it has, thus far, remained stable in my system without losing its effectiveness over the years. This treatment protocol virtually saved my life and enabled me the opportunity to enjoy my life with my wonderful children and live as a contributing member of society.

When I went to pick up my monthly medication this evening (the same CVS where I have picked them up every month for the last 10 years), my pharmacist, who I know very well, pulling me aside and told me that the Control IV medications are not being released by any of the manufacturers and that they have been encountering huge problems with getting any manufacturers to send them backordered shipments on certain medications, most specifically narcotics (like Percodan] and other strong pain killers. Their first thought was that the FDA must be investigating those medications because they have reason to believe that they might to be dangerous to the general public, but as the list continued to grow (and included medications that have been used as tried-true methods for more than 30-40 years), suspicions started to mount. Then she told me something absolutely horrible. They have a patient, twelve years old (a friend of my daughter's, actually), who has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment at home for leukemia. A few weeks ago, the manufacturer sent a statement that they were stopping production of this medication, effective immediately, and it wouldn't be available for the foreseeable future. She scanned the internet and couldn't find any medical briefing on this particular medication. Three weeks ago, this immune compromised patient became quite ill and after finding the medication missing at the hospital also, she slipped into a coma. Two week ago, she died because she was not able to get the medication needed to save her life, in spite of the humanitarian requests that had been submitted to the FDA.

I was shaken by the pharmacist’s recounting and just as I was about to leave, she said to me in a very low tone "it’s as if they (I assumed she was referring to either Big Pharma or the Government) know that something big is coming and are trying to hoard all of the narcotic pain medications while denying acutely ill patients access to their own life saving medications which would serve the majority of the population in no way. Just some food for thought fellow ATers - could this all be a coincidence or could there be foreknowledge of events on the imminent horizon. I'm curious about everyone's opinion. This just seemed very weird to me.

I have a chronic shoulder condition that causes me a great deal of pain. I am perscribed narcotic painkillers and i had no problem getting them last week. If when it comes time to refill my perscription and they wont fill it then i will believe there is a problem, but until then I dont think there is anything to worry about.

Apparently there has been a shortage of ADHD medications recently, too. I don't have any links at present , but I believe that threads have already been posted on ATS concerning this.

wow BIG star and Flag here~!! I'm so sorry to hear that child died, my heart goes out to the family.

i really hope this thread goes viral to help us really get a solid understanding where each county and state are being effected; summarily, my wife was able to get 2 does of anti-biotics, can't remember the names off hand but, this was just 2 weeks ago. There was never an issue in getting the meds..

I haven't heard of this here in Oregon, yet. I hope we don't~! I just hope there's a glitch in the system..

Hi, can you pm me the name of the medicine? I have not heard of any such stockpiling being done.
If you give me the medicine name I can check with my manufacturers and probably get some clear details.

LOL - I'm going to do a google search to see if the Pharma company has anything about the drug. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the cancer drug - that just rips my heart out.

I picked up my regular meds from the hospital today, and was told by the pharmacist that there would be a two-week (possibly longer) shortage on some meds and a smaller amount than usual of others. She didn't say why, other than that they were going to remodel part of the building (including the pharmacy). Seemed kind of weird to me at the time, but now I'm kinda worried!!

I can understand your concern, especially if they're maintenance medications or if your body's developed some type of tolerance to them which could result in withdrawal. I called my doctor immediately after leaving the pharmacy and she is sending me a prescription for a similar type of medication which should keep me stable until they put my original back into production. You'll feel less worried if you call and ask for the same...

One possible reason for shortages of certain types of drugs is that the FDA got a nice little injection of money in their annual budget & they have been going after manufacturers hard. Several have been shut down for months & some drugs are getting very difficult to find.

(Check out google & you'll find articles about the FDA using their newly hired inspectors)

I think a huge reason for this(if true)is because so many people fake illness/pain just to get a hold of some pain killers,FDA was gonna slow it down eventually..

"FDA was gonna slow it down eventually.. "
I think that may be the biggest problem, the DEA and FDA not doctors are making these decisions.
I have had need for chronic pain control and it's seemed at times that my dr. practiced more from law books rather than from medical books. It is sad and inappropriate for bureaucrats to be the main medical practitioners in this country. Let's not forget that shortages of any product drive up price and nearly all of these drugs are old, inexpensive and without patent.

' Federal Government buying out Freeze Dried Food Produce '

i wonder if there are people who actually think governments haven't been stockpiling their bunkers.

And this offgridsurvival.com...
' U.S. Supplies of potassium iodide gone…. Government takes control '

What if there is a shortage because they are dumping it into the water supply?
LOL! How's that for conspiracy? Sure seems like people should be a lot more
upset about things then they are. A massive narcotic dump into our water
supply would explain a lot.

The pill mills in Florida are killing people.

The government is trying to get it under control.

Like everything else, a few people ruin everything.
