It's not really that fun after the initial thrill of exploration wears off. The combat is clunky, the dialogue is poorly written, and the quests are uninteresting. Add to that the linearity of the gameplay and the horror at what Bethesda did to some aspects of the Fallout universe and it makes a not very fun game.

Edit: Apparently 'fun' is directly proportional to how badly your intelligence is insulted, more fun = more stupid according to the consensus nowadays.

Well if you explore the entire wasteland you're kinda done. That's the point isn't it?

By "thrill of exploration" I meant that feelling you get when you first start playing the game, then you slowly start to realize that everything in the wasteland is exactly the same, and everyone you meet is mentally handicapped.

They seriously expected me to believe that Canterbury Commons was supposed to be the trading capitol of the wasteland? The town was made up of three adults, a kid, and a dog. Some 'town' you've got there.

How much civilization do you expect to have survived?

Everywhere in the wasteland felt unique to me. How is New Vegas better? I felt that way about New Vegas. Just desert and more desert and more effing desert.

New Vegas was a lot better, at least they didn't try to call four people a "town". Plus what do you mean how many people do I expect to have survived? This is two hundred years after the war, lots of time for society to start rebuilding which was exactly what was going on in the first two games and in New Vegas. Society was rebuilding.

Apparently people in the Capital Wasteland are still living off food scavenged from supermarkets, for two hundred freaking years. I can only suspend my disbelief so much.

I agree...with everything.
Fallout 1 and 2 are great games with great gameplay, fun or scary moments, brillant dialogues, great characters and a realistic world.

Fallout 3 was basically a modification of Oblivion. With the same flaws in Gameplay (I hate to even call that abomination a "role playing game", it's a graphic demo with a unfinished non-working game on top). Most of the skills do nothing, the game is unbalanced as it can and the perks do basically nothing.

The World...yeah, the first hour was fun, wandering around and then you just start to notice all the flaws.
The world is unrealistic....burned out houses with flawless furniture? Give me a break. The whole world feels like a paste job...same houses, same layouts...always the same.
The NPCs are just for show, they don't act on their own, they don't care what happens in the world....You can bomb Megaton and nobody gives a #. Great!
You can do what you want and nothing happens. Kill some people...nobody cares. In the previous games the news spread around...for example: Kill some children in Fallout 2 and EVERYONE hates you, nobody wants to do business with you. That's how it should be. (Even though there are rarely kids in F3 and Bethesday didn't had the balls to let kids into the world and let them get killed, you kill the child in Megaton when you nuke the town)

The story has more plot holes then a Uwe Boll movie, the dialogues are written by what...a 10 year old? The characters are mostly boring and uninteresting - except maybe for the cannibals, they were funny.
The AI is non-existent and everything feels just flat.

The only good thing about Fallout 3 is the soundtrack.

But i can understand, why the game is so popular. Lots of new young gamers who follow every hype and think every game is awesome once IGN or Gamespot say so.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. had a better working, realisticaly feeling post-apocalyptic world

So some time has passed and I feel I must post an update on my current opinion. lol

I feel fallout 3 was fun but now having played more of fallout I know that New Vegas was truer to fallout lore and mythology.

So yeah, I stand corrected.
