I starting reading a book about Nuclear Fallout and well you can guess what popped into my head.

I'm wanting to play this again. I can just remember all my nights staying up late with my friends talking with them while shooting Mutants in underground bunkers listening to Galaxy News Radio.

So let's get some fallout stories, pictures and all the good stuff in here.

Warning in advance - Fallout is a M rated game. It contains gore among other things.

Alright no immediate takers. I guess I'll start with a story about the infamous glitches.

I was in a dungeon having a lot of fun just chilling playing around. Had gotten a lot of good loot and was on my way out. Well on my way out I got attacked by some of the feral gouls. Well I fought back into a corner and was pushed into the wall. I got stuck. Had to reload. Lost all my loot.

My favorite is Fallout 3. Although I've never played the older ones. I might buy them sometime soon. I just don't know if they will hold up because Bethesda reinvented the series.

Why discard your save games? have too many? Haha I had like 200 at one time. Froze my xbox up that did.

Well, not fallout 3 related, but I just picked up Fallout: New Vegas again (traded it in after launch because it was so buggy).

I was going about my business, just got to the big ol' gates to Vegas. I go in, talk to the man who presides over that utopia, and using my maxed out hacking skill, I ended up sneaking into a very endgame area despite being fairly close to my starting point (Okay, I did 20 hours of going about the wasteland outside of Vegas, but still), So I just mess around, not knowing what the effects will be and I cancel about 50% of the main storyline in one decision.
Luckily, I saved earlier so I reloaded, haha.
Sorry to be vague, but trying to avoid spoilers.

Oh, in 3, I was so protective of the Dog, I sent him to the entrance of Vault 101 and refused to use him the rest of the game. I was heartbroken to see him disappear later in the game, but he then returned and I locked him up in my house in Megaton or whatever the bomb-city was called.

Also, when I used Liberty Prime... So great. Everything about Prime was great,

The older games are amazing, but certainly not the same style as the newer ones, it follows the RPG norms a bit more but still have a ton of different decisions to make and hilarious black humor. If you followed 3's launch, it created a massive schism between the old fans and the newer fallout initiates. Both styles appeal to me, so I never paid the haters much mind though.

Haha it's a any fallout thread.

New Vegas just didn't feel the same too me. I think I was turned off by Bethesda not doing it. Sure they had some say but not much. I also didnt like that. The quest could be ruined pretty easily. Then It just got repetitive.

"Go here."

"Earn trust."

"Befriend or Kill."

"Move to next faction"

You know?

But yeah Dog was great. I loved the place that was ran by kids. That made me laugh.

Some bad-mouthed kids XD

I think I might look up some videos on youtube of it.

I think one of the best parts of fallout was the humor.

That's another thing. The Washington Wasteland was believable. I don't buy the New Vegas one. Don't know why. lol

Oh God, Fallout 3 was just awful. I still can't get over what Bethesda did to the franchise.

New Vegas is much closer to the originals and is superior in almost every way to Fallout 3.

[Intelligence 6] There was humor in Fallout 3?

[Perception 7]

Yes. Did you not see it?

I'm sorry sometimes Black Humor is hard to see. Just like some people don't see sarcasm.

It was there. All the Perks for example. [Carried over from the older games but still]

"Lead Belly"

or the "Gory Mess!"

Also if Bethesda ruined the series what was so good about it before? I don't see it.

There wasn't any dark humor in Fallout 3, Fallout 1 and 2 are good examples of dark humor. Fallout 3 just suffers from poor writing and bad game design. The original two games were some of the best RPGs of all time, Bethesda turned the series into a mediocre shooter with almost no roleplaying elements. Not to mention a black and white plot that has as many holes as swiss cheese.

Now I feel like you're trolling.

I just pointed out the humor in Fallout 3. Did you not read?

"No Roleplaying elements"

What?? Leveling System + Skills + Perks

Was pretty RPG to me. Then again you probably also hated Oblivion.

Edit: Some more humor would be the kids who have their little cave community. Though I don't remember that very well.

It was way too easy to max out all your skills and stats, meaning there was no need to specialize in anything. The way Bethesda changed the SPECIAL system meant that it didn't really matter what you put points into as you'd still end up pretty much the same and it was impossible to be bad at combat. Most of the humor in Fallout 3 just fell flat and a lot of the dialogue made me facepalm.

Then there was just stupid stuff Bethesda added for the "lulz" like mini nukes, God I hate them for that. Fallout 3 was just a dumbed down game in general designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Edit: Also add paper thin characters, bad voice acting, bugs, and linear gameplay to the mix and the result is a pretty below average RPG.

Edit: You're right, I did hate Oblivion for pretty much the same reasons, mainly the poor writing and bad voice acting.

Well it was only easy if you grinded to try and level. Personally I don't think RPGs should be played like that. Well unless the RPG is Oblivion. But that's another thread.

I never maxed any skills. Maybe you just played it wrong.

What's wrong with the Mini-Nuke? I thought it was cool.

I never did any grinding and I didn't complete all that many quests and I still ended the game with about five skills maxed and all my SPECIAL stats pretty high. The reason so many people like this game is because it takes very little effort to be awesome at everything.

A big problem was how Bethesda treated nuclear weaponry in the game (mini nuke, blowing up megaton, exploding cars) they took nuclear weaponry way too lightly for a game about the horrors of nuclear war. They took away the reason we fear these weapons just so we could have the "lulz".

Then don't even get me started on VATS mode or "Insta-cheat mode".

So Fallout needs to be more realistic? Right? Video games must be realistic?

That's what I'm getting.

I never maxed my stats so that's weird.

No I'm saying that videogames need to try not to be so mind-numbingly stupid. The first two Fallout games and New Vegas weren't realistic at all, but they were at least intelligent.

Edit: If you didn't max them then you got them all pretty high, like in the 70-90 range.

Edit: Also, if Bethesda's going to create a game with exactly zero likable characters, can they at least give us the option to kill them all?

We've turned my lovely thread praising fallout into a hatezone. WHAT HAVE WE DONE!

But in all seriousness the game was fun. Fun doesn't always = great. Some people hate Alpha Protocal without realizing that it was fun. As bad as it was...it was fun.

It's not really that fun after the initial thrill of exploration wears off. The combat is clunky, the dialogue is poorly written, and the quests are uninteresting. Add to that the linearity of the gameplay and the horror at what Bethesda did to some aspects of the Fallout universe and it makes a not very fun game.

Edit: Apparently 'fun' is directly proportional to how badly your intelligence is insulted, more stupid = more fun apparently according to the consensus nowadays.
