Miami, Florida (CNN) -- Rescuers worked feverishly Friday to save a group of pilot whales who stranded themselves in shallow waters near the Florida Keys, officials said.
There were more than 16 pilot whales stranded in an area about 20 miles north of Key West, said Art Cooper, vice chairman of the Marine Mammal Conservancy.
Officials say two whales are now confirmed dead and there may be more.
The others are being brought to a holding pen at a marina in Cudjoe Key.

A similar incident occurred in the Florida Keys in 2003, when 28 whales were stranded. Most of them died, but after several months of care, five were released back into the ocean.

Last year, dozens of pilot whales died in northern New Zealand after 58 of them were stranded on a remote beach.

I know some of you believe this to be an indicator of something greater, I am not yet necessarily convinced of what that may be. Earthquake? Animals of all types tend to do this sort of act once in a while. But it is interesting and I wanted to share with those of you with more experience in this topic.

Seriously, why only certain species of life recently have been targeted by some unseen force. Its probable that this is testing to single out our species somehow.

Couple the wales with the event on this thread 'Earthquake clouds over Northwest Indiana' and it's kinda hard not to believe that something's gonna happen seismically..

It is well known that dolphins are quite the intelligent species.
Some have dared to say their intelligence level could be on par if not greater than humans.
Whales are close relatives of the dolphins... so that could be the reason for getting targeted..

"leave the humans alone, they will finish each other off themselves without us raising a pinky"

can't say the same for the animal & other life imo

Theres a story written out of Wellington, New Zealand published Feb. 20

States that 107 Pilot whales washed up and died on their beach. The Christchurch earthquake was the 22 I believe. There could be a connection although the location of the washed up whales was on the southern tip a little bit aways from Christchurch.

Also found another site showing pictures taken on Feb 21 of these rainbow clouds in Rangiora 25 km north of Christchurch.

I was just about to post this article too.

Don't be surprised if this beached whale activity is a clear warning sign of a major seismic event coming soon.

Like you already alluded too - it happened before the Christchurch Quake, and there were similar events happening in the areas around Indonesia before the 2004 megathrust quake and tsnami.

There has been quite a bit of activity south of Florida lately in the carribean around Puerto Rico and Jamaica - don't be surprised if Haiti gets hit again with an even bigger quake than last years that killed over 100,000 people.

Also this is just pure speculation - but I wouldn't be surprised if this is related to the New Madrid fault. There are theories that the New Madrid connects to another fault line that runs through Lousiana into the Gulf of Mexico. This may be also tied to the deep water horizon oil spill as well. Lets not forget that Edgar Cayce predicted that the next time the NM ruptures it's going to literally split the US in half from the GOM all the way to the great lakes and Canada.
