I think this is a sign that the dollar is indeed imploding on itself soon if not now! This could be the beginning of the chain of events that leads to the worst depression we have ever seen and the next step to the Amero! Along with the North American Union beginning here! (sorry if this is a repost)

Let it burn, it all has to burn down, so we can start a new. Burn down and arise like a phoenix.

As long as Sallie Mae is involved in said burning, I'll solemnly accept the inevitable.

Yeah when losing ``only`` 1 billion seems good, you know the expectations are in the dumps.

And that's not freddie mac losing a billion, that's the US government, aka taxpayers. Remember the FED took fannie and freddie's debt? That's a billion more they can't repay the treasury.

Federal takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

The taxpayers get shafted once again.

I think you'll find that this is peanuts of what they have "off the books".
In fact, if you found 1 billion somehwere and funded this loss completely, you will find that next quarter will be exactly the same becasue they will just return another pile of # that isn't even recorded right back into the balance sheet and say "oh now how about that, we need more help!".
What you know about is just the tip of the iceberg I'm afraid. There is no way out.
