This is probably similar to the Birth Certificate fiasco. This was such a big deal that they probably got all of their "i"s dotted and "t"s crossed way beforehand, but want everyone to remain skeptical. He'll be forced to bring forth the proof so he can have another "HAHA I TOLD YOU SO" moment. This could be their way to set up straw man arguments in the future. "You didn't believe me when I said this, this or that.. and you ended up with your foot in your mouth. You're questioning me now?"

The problem is he played that card and played it well. Playing it again won't have the same effect nor will it sit well with people.

It is similar to the "Boy who cried wolf!" story. Eventually people are fed up being strung along for some political ploy and game. Which is what people will identify this as if that is the end-game the president and/or advisors are planning.

Couple this with the promises for transparency and honesty more and more will put two and two together and in the end, it will fade away to be known as political posturing and only served for his re-election campaign and not for America.

here is basically the deal for Obama
right now as I see it

If he doesn't release the pics
he won't stand a chance in hell
of getting re-elected.

If he does release the pics and they
are real (not fake) then he regains
some credibility and has hope for 2012.

If he releases them and found to be forgeries
then he might as well be a lame duck for
the duration in office. And the DNC would be
foolish to allow Obama to represent the DEMs
again in 2012.
