I haven't been a member of ATS long. I enjoy this sight very much. It's enough to get the blood going in the morning and the paranoia notched up a level.

However, I am amazed at the number of threads that start with the lines ... "proof of." or "Here is proof of." especially in the 2012 and UFO forums. Upon reading most of these threads, it turns out to be some of the same rehashed theories that many people are putting forward across the net whether it's related to the 2012 doomsday scenario, or proof of alien autopsies etc.

I open the thread and it's a link or a massive copy and paste job from another site/blog and low and behold, it's "proof" of whatever it is related too.

I authored a thread which is linked in my signature about Binary star systems. I attempted to do a little leg work and question the facts and science and provide credible sources when presenting my opinion on the subject matter.

What I'm wondering is, if people are going to put "proof" in the thread title, would be so difficult for the thread author to do a little leg work and provide evidence/science/credible sources instead of taking what one person touts as gospel and "proof" for hard fact and credible science.

I know this is a bit of a rant but it boggles me that so many people are automatically believing everything they read.

"Deny ignorance. Question Everything - seek the proof to back it up!"

Edit.. In the wrong forum !

You speak of what bothers you about other posters while posting a rant in "Board Business and Questions" Do you not realize there is a "Rant" section? You want people to do some research before posting, yet in your "Rant", you neglected to do the same as you wish others to do.

Welcome to ATS.

You do have a point, However this is not the way to do it. I would like to see this thread where it is supposed to be though.

Im not sure I remember saying what you quoted there. Unless thats just you forgetting to type your eply outside of the quote box.

And my rant (OMG how dare I) is directed towards threads like yours. Thread

You create a thread stating there's proof of this that and the next thing and all you've done is copy and paste someones blog excerpts and linked directly too it. Did you make any efforts to obtain this evidence for yourself and verify what you were posting. No. You just took what he was saying as proof that the source had proof.

All you did was create another sensationalist thread, and at that duplicate the many threads that already exists about the same topic, containing the same sensational claims which have absolutely no scientific merit whatsoever.

Do the research and provide the evidence before posting. And just because I choose to believe scientists over what "random people" claim is the truth doesn't make me one of the sheeple. Unlike some around here, I actually enjoy subjects such as physics, astronomy etc, so when I do research a particular topic, I usually have a good grasp of what I'm talking about.
