Can someone tell me where this "too graphic" stuff is originating from? Literally every comment I've seen from Obama on the matter has been "we don't want to release pictures, because we'll run the risk of provoking attacks."

This has nothing to do with sensitivity, at least not from the standpoint of whether or not Americans are capable of handling graphic images. It has everything to do with not wanting to provoke attacks (hence the "we don't want to flaunt him like a trophy" comments).

All of their attempts to conjure a fake photo have failed. This is evident in the scores of fakes that were "leaked" online the days after the news broke. They were testing the waters, and since people proved to smart to drink the Kool-aid, they had to change their opinion on releasing the pic.
One day, when they've managed to create a believable enough forgery then the "real" picture will be "accidentally leaked".

CLIP

It began with the recent down loaded BC from the WH site. The Layered Adobe Illustrator file was taken apart in hours.

Actually, I'm in agreement with the photo's not being released. (Of course, some of them are already "released" according to some threads.

It would serve no purpose. It's offensive and distasteful, but also an exercise in futility.

As for the people who are demanding these unsavory photos, they wouldn't believe them anyway, as they demanded the BC be released, and when it was, they continued to disbelieve it. It is very likely many of the same people/crowd/skeptics in this scenario. Same people, change of demand. It doesn't matter what they think. Believe what you want to believe, it doesn't change the circumstances.

By no means was I celebratory when I heard the news, but I wasn't sad either. He forfeited his right to life many years ago, when he admitted to engineering the death sentence on NYC. There are some things you just cannot do and expect to live a long life in peace.

To suggest that the government leaked those photos yesterday is ridiculous. Those fakes have been floating around for months, if not years. If you think our government is stupid enough to attempt to leak out fake pictures that are already in circulation, well... then you're being disingenuous.

I have a feeling they have actionable intelligence on 1 or more cells where attack is imminent within the next few weeks, and they won't release the photos until the cell or cells are put down. I believe the "fear" is that if the photo is released, it may result in a "go now" approach by the cell or cells. By holding off, the U.S. can continue with closing the noose slowly, but with precision. Just a hunch.

We'll see the photos in due time.

Are you sure? The one where he's lying next to the US soldier, and the one with the massive cranial damage I'd never seen before May 1st. I could be wrong about the pics, but I've never seen them.

I would think if his concern was for preventing an attack on the American Public, the whole affair would have been kept quiet. Why cause trouble where it doesn't exist? Maybe political currency in a time when our economy is in the tank is more important than a perceived reprisal ? He obviously figured he could have it both ways. Look at Bush.. Willy Brown (SF Mayor) was warned not to fly the night before 911.. someone knew, yet the lives of Americans weren't important when it comes to being re-elected or creating a better polling score.

btw that was no military transport helicopter that downed.
Looks to me like some sort of spy drone ?
Does anyone know what it is ? :
click ? ? ?

It looks more like a prototype, why I say the mission was probably
about recovery.
typical military helicopters

It was a secretly developed stealth helicopter, probably a highly modified version of an H-60 Blackhawk. Photos published in the Daily Mail and on the Secret Projects board show that the helicopter's tail features stealth-configured shapes on the boom and tip fairings, swept stabilizers and a "dishpan" cover over a non-standard five-or-six-blade tail rotor. It has a silver-loaded infra-red suppression finish similar to that seen on some V-22s.

It's not so much that I want to see these photos, but I believe the photos should be made available for those who do wish to view them.

I viewed photos tonight of like three of his buddies who were killed in the raid. All laying in pools of blood from apparent head wounds, one whose eyes were half open. I thought the photos I was about to look at were just pictures from inside the compound and there was a graphic warning attached, but I was under the impression I was about to see blood spatter.

And another thing, on September 11, 2001, they looped footage of the planes hitting the towers over and over. People trapped, who either burned to death or opted to jump - it's available all over the net. Then there was the film of Daniel Pearl being beheaded.

I just disagree with the Obama Administration on this.

Me and my mom thought he died years ago, if he's even dead at all. They've lied to the people enough, if they release the photos we'll them fake because it's the truth......
I disagree with Obama too.

i love how they dumped the body into the sea and destroyed all possible evidence of osama actually being killed. the only organization that i know of that ever does sink bodies seaworthy is the mafia. funny how they do it for the SOLE PURPOSE of destroying any evidence... WEIRD.

and now they're not showing the pictures? all these excuses are pure horse----. are they really so arrogant in their plans now that they think everyone's soooo stupid we won't question this story? this has to be the most bizarre and odd story of 2011 so far. I pray to God people aren't dumb enough to vote him into office again... this guy is just a continuation of 10 years of abysmal leadership... pathetic

thanks for the info.
To me it 's obvious that this whole thing started off as a recovery
mission for the secret steath hel., . . . they have a lot of explaining to do,
although it would be simpler to distract and make up a sensational
story about the previously dead Bin Laden, wouldn't it.

Imagine how the American people would react if Al Qaida killed one of our troops or military leaders, and put photos of the body on the internet.

You mean like the numerous beheading videos?

Osama bin Laden is not a trophy - he is dead and let's now focus on continuing the fight until Al Qaida has been eliminated."

Dam rights hes a trophy, you don't hunt someone for 10 years and then dump them in the ocean after you finally get him. And then not even show proof! WTF!

Oh, and I also love the "continuing the fight until the imaginary foe is wiped out" part.

Maybe they don't trust the white house photoshoper to erase the freezer burn form osama's face and remember to flatten the image like he should have done with the birth certificate.

It was nothing to do with your well being. It was to prevent Islamic fundamentalists becoming enraged after seeing the bloody face of their leader.

It's not as if you would have believed the photos were real anyway
edit on 4/5/2011 by Griffo because: (no reason given)

With all due respect, Islamic Fundamentalists do not need to see a bloody picture to become enraged. Many are already vowing revenge. Some have already threatened to hang Obama, There have already been countless reports of threats against the US since this happened.

If, as you say, we would not believe the photos to be real, what makes you think the Muslim Extremists would believe they are real? Are they not also capable of critical thinking?

I don't believe for one second that the reason to withhold the pictures was to appease the Muslims.

yeah i know what your saying and i agree, i was just pointing out that if we apply what we can confirm to anything else it would not be accepted, that's why i mentioned u.f.o's just as one example.

i agree with everything your saying, especially about why they do not just release the photo, that act on it's own is what is going to fuel conspiracy theories, it is the only thing that makes me wonder if we are being told the truth.

you'd think if they have the footage they would show it with a warning about any possible offense it may cause etc. i am pretty certain i have seen worse horror films in my time, and i have seen many dead bodies just researching world war two, if it bothers them just make it black and white.

don't forget that the saddam photos and videos were released under the bush administration, run by one of the bush family, the administration and family that actually DID want to trophy their defeat of saddam because of the gulf war. and even then, the photos were released officially only because the video of his hanging hit the internet about an hour after it happened(which did cause global backlash). saddam died in an execution, osama allegedly died by gunfire, so it'd be hard for video(even a soldiers camera) to capture the actual event(unless, of course, there was a dedicated cameraman).

photos should be released officially, although they'll most likely be leaked(probably officially). but i also agree with the consensus that no one would believe evidence even if it WAS presented, so the administration is currently wielding a double-edged sword with this one.
