On the CNN broadcast of John Kerry's speech accepting the Democratic nomination for President Thursday evening, an unexpected technical glitch resulted in an embarrassing gaffe for the news network. A production mic was left live as balloons and confetti were to be dropped; when the balloons did not appear as planned, DNC Director Don Mischer uttered expletives relating to the location of the balloons.
CNN's WTF Happened to the Balloons?

"No confetti. No confetti yet. Go balloons. Go balloons. More balloons. All balloons. All balloons. Come on guys, let's move it! Jesus. We need more balloons. I want all balloons to go, g**damn! No confetti. No confetti. No confetti. I want more balloons. What's happening to the balloons? We need more balloons. We need all of them coming down! Balloons. Balloons. Balloons. What's happening? They're not coming down! All balloons! Where the hell...? Nothing is falling. What the f**k are you guys doing up there? We want more balloons coming down. More balloons! More balloons!"

Why is CNN tapping into the technical frequency? Why were they playing it even if they could?

That doesn't make much sense to me, could you be more clear?

CNN is sabotaging Kerry's speech! I don't see how this isn't intentional sabotage!

That wasn't CNN it was some guy running the goings on (producer? Prop guy?) like the ballons and confetti.

Ok, I was kind of excited and pissed off. Let me see if I can clarify. The behind the scenes stage directions were clearly audible for everone watching CNN to hear. There was a voice saying "Go ballons" and "Go confetti". Apparently there was something wrong with the ballon release mechanism, so he started to get upset. Eventually he said "Where the hell are those ballons!!" and "What the f- are you guys doing up there in the ballons" or something like that. This went on for about a minute and CNN played the whole thing.

Why? Why would they do that?

You mean Wolf "Bush" Blitzer? Or one of his cronies wise cracking ever so slightly off camera?

That's why I watch the real stuff on C-SPAN.

NO COMMENTARY FROM THE PEANUT OIL GALLERY!

The balloons were timed by the way. Still falling.

They cut the mike once the guy said the "f word", after having it on for a minute or so. It may have been a glitch at first, but leaving the mike open was intentional. Right after that they went to Wolf Blitzer's interview with the RNC chair who began to attack Kerry's speech.

CNN has sunk to the level of FOX as far as I'm concerned. I hope they recieve all kinds of hell for this...

What kills me is that some people think CNN is liberal! If CNN is liberal, then the libs are in a lot of trouble, because they definately don't have any friends over there!

I can at least vouch for NBC as they did not have unrelated voices in the background. I am quite dissapointed with CNN though. I understand it was a live feed, at least they could have checked the sound levels before turning everything on...

Beautiful image on which to end the convention

An audio link is available on Drudge Report.

From a technical point of view.

The CNN mic frequencies and assorted other frequencies for communications were probably only one digit or two away from the Directors gallery. They use radio links and not cable links like most would suspect, its still cheaper and easier to use radio.

For instance,

118.932 = Gallery
118.933 = Wolfs handheld
118.934 = Studio Floor
118.935 = DNC Lighting

I listened to it. I don't see how that would really have any effect on Kerry. It's not him. He has nothing to do with it.

Face it - people talk like that when they're not in the spotlight, and sometimes when they are. If people take a dislike for a person based on what someone else says, then they're idiots.

Here is the link for the audio file from Drudge Report:

This sucks, I can hardly believe it - but I shouldn't be suprised.

It was a great speech IMO, too bad it will be overshadowed by this now.

This is ridiculous, now CNN is the devil? I thought Kerry did a fine job of delivering his speech and a technical glitch won't take away from it. Paranoia over an open mike from the balloon master!? Come on the only story here is the fact that Kerry's message was lost seconds after by the cursings of "balloon control" accidently aired by CNN, at least in this thread.

By the way I watched on CNN's "sister" channel FNC. (No open mike there)

I think it is very wrong that we concentrate on that word rather than the biggest speech.

"F-Bomb".

Concentrate on that, me, saying it.

Not the biggest political speech of the year.

If you have values like you claim then you'll be every bit as mad at me than you are with them.

Oh, thats right, there's not a single person who hasn't said the F word at least once.

Isn't this similar to what the media did with the Deam scream? I mean, if you listen to the scream normally, you can't hear it, because of the crowd noise. If you filter out the crowd noise and isolate the scream, you can hear it. Ever wonder why when you hear that famous scream, you can't hear the thousands of screaming people in the background? That's why. The media is very selctive on what it wants people to hear. First the NASA photo, now this. The good thing is, no matter what they have done so far, they just can't keep Kerry down!

Ummm, soooooo . . . I guess one can post an elite thread/subject/title with the wording fvck in it, obviously fvck, but when I ask Bush(George) how Dick(Cheney) tastes, I get docked 150 points? Whatever . . .

On the subject, who gives a fvck. THEY(Presidency) are going to do what FVCK THEY are going to do, despite what THEY say THEY are going to do. Your vote is a vote for FVCK, and that is IT!

Vote NO on Presidents.

Can't wait to see how many points I am down after this . . .

I believe the story here is the screw-up by CNN, and not anything related to a very well-written but moderately-well delivered speech.

Yes, unfortunately this will overshadow the speech. And it will be very interesting to see how the members of ATS, with our conspiracy-slant, view this event.
