The European Parliament took a first step on Tuesday towards half a billion Europeans directly electing the EU president, with a vote to introduce a second ballot from which the leader would emerge.

"In the next few years, the EU will be looking for a much more high-profile president - somebody who can unify Europe," Schwarzenegger's chief of staff, Terry Tamminen, told the magazine. "The French won't want a German, and the Germans won't want an Italian. How about a European-born person who went off to America and - could return to be the Washington or Jefferson of a new unified Europe?" said Tamminen, all but nominating his former boss for the job.

The magazine cited a recent meeting in London between Schwarzenegger and prime minister David Cameron, in which the British politician joked: "We need to change the [US] Constitution and then you can run [for president]. That's what we're going to do."

The EU is a complicated set-up and the direct election of a President by the people of Europe would assume that things change very significantly – not least a consensus achieved by the countries of Europe, which I doubt will be forthcoming in my lifetime.

There is of course a President (of the European Council) who is elected by the leaders of the European countries in the EU. This position is more of a chair for the Talking Shop when the leaders meet, and has no direct power because the post-holder is hobbled by the Council which is run by the (etc).

As for Schwarzenegger being a contender. That’s a joke. Whatever happened to serious journalism? Even with the current set up, I cannot imagine any European leader spending more than 17 seconds considering Schwarzenegger’s legitimacy or appropriateness.

You are absolutely right, I interpreted the post wrong in my anger. There are two different things and I apologize for my error. I'm so tired of all the talk about the NWO and more. Europe has already established leadership of the NWO. Look at how it looks in europe and thoughts on the future makes me just furious. sorry about that.

I think I want to see Nigel Farage get a chance to rip into him. I just want to see how he would respond to somebody that knows what they are talking about, and has the guts to call him out to his face.

Should I be shocked? Well, I'm not. When he left the Gub-ship in Cali I was pretty much set in disbelief - his reasons mentioned were his 'desire to return to making movies'. Nawwwww said me, he wants to rule the world. Seems I was right, in part.

What says me? Ol' Arnold might be casting one eye on the European Union, but, in my opinion? Sure, Arnold might cut his teeth on the European Union - but I've no doubt he's got his eye on the 'choice job' - which of course would be, the 'President' of the North American Union... It's not like you'd have to be born in the USA to be head of that now would you?
