I used to see big military aircraft entering and exiting Sierra Army Depot
all the time when I lived up your way....do you think maybe the aircraft diped down into that little valley just north of the hospital? Or was it going towards Eagle Lake?

this is one thing that can happen but it does not seem to be what happened to you.

There are some military aircraft that use an LCD type screen that wraps around the aircraft (possibly an OLED type that was military technology long before it was released for civilian use) and also uses cameras such that the background if seen by the camera and displayed on the opposite side of the aircraft. It is a type of visual stealth and it is a matter of turning the system on. It will do exactly what you describe, disappear right in front of you. It was part of the stealth program which was force wide and in many different systems.

I can't locate the information now, but the aircraft skin acts like an LCD skin and cameras on the opposite sides feed the picture to the opposite side of the aircraft thereby making it optically invisible with the flip of a switch. This was older technology. The new systems are still hidden in black programs, but the story on the tank above will show you where it is headed.

Okay, so the only reason I found this was because I was looking for an explanation. Today I saw a strange thing, that pretty much equates to what you saw. I was walking around my office today (get sun and fresh air), and on the way back, I heard a loud engine noise (similar to an F18 lets say). It was loud but then quietened to the level of a normal passanger jet. When I saw the plane I wondered where did it come from? The sound just appeared like that. I thought engine trouble as the sound was odd, so I followed the jet (which was low...approach/takeoff) as it moved westward and into a small white cloud (blue skies and small puffy clouds were around). The odd part was the sound of the jet just faded away quickly, and where it should have emerged....it didn't. I thought maybe he turned quickly so I got a better view looking around for the plane. I couldn't find it. At this point I am thinking explosion, but I never heard a sound. THe last sound I heard was as if the plane were off in the distance, yet it was practicly above me. ANyways, this really messed me up. I can't think of what, where or why in this case.

I am not drunk, high nor going for scans. I had a nice lunch a couple hours before, and I know what planes can do, sound like and look like. The only way this planes sound can turn 'off' as it did would be to do a 180 or turn the engines off. This couldn't be a trick, as both my eyes AND ears would have to be manipulated with. I really don't know what happened, but I think I was in the same state of 'what the' that you were in.
