i'm with you friend, as I expressed in my own rant. Coming here I was looking for information and discussion on topics like most are. From my experience here at ATS lurking and posting I've come to a realization.

We are not being visited by aliens and anyone claiming to have contact with them is:

a liar
mentally unstable
attention seeker

Yes i'll piss some people off saying that, but after going through countless videos and threads, this is my conclusion. I'll never rule out the possibility of life out there, but thanks to the countless hoaxes and morons, I'm thoroughly convinced no one HERE has any proof other than half baked waking dreams, hoaxes, and religious under toned crap.

And it's not just that, I enjoy getting to the bottom of some of those videos and showing how they are hoaxes, I enjoy the hunt for truth. It's the influx of idiots, and I truly mean idiots, that has me down. You've nailed it completely, never searching, 1 line posts, off topic posts, blatant trolling......

all of this and in the meantime who do I get thanked for my efforts to remove the layers of hoaxes to get to the real stuff? I get insulted and called a shill. It's hilarious, I do indeed work for the government of my province, but in an IT related manner for Education, at no point does that translate into anything related to me being here, and I've never hid that fact.

It's getting harder and harder to sift through the crap...

Unless I am misunderstanding something here; virtually all ATS content is member generated. So if you want things to change then you will have to change them yourselves.

I have noticed that when things are a little dry, for instance on the UFO forum, more seasoned members will do fairly expert re-synthesis of older reports to keep things going. Those seem to make up the better posts, at least on the UFO threads, when things are slow.

For instance; MadDogTheHunter's compass thread. He put that up one day after complaining like this thread does. He put his money where his mouth is, no? nearly 1500 replies if not more since the last time I checked. There was even an extended visit from Phage.

I have actually the past 2 weekends in a row put in 4-6 hours on threads that I thought would deliver new info that members would be interested in. All in the spirit of Denying Ignorance and providing quality material for other members to read. They were virtually ignored in favor of the types of posts you cite above. But it ain't gonna stop me.

So if you want better more salient content you had better get down to generating it. C'mon, take this bitch over and show us what you've got.

I also thought that maybe ATSers would like to have the latest UFO videos dragged over here from wherever they come from so they can be analyzed on a thread ala ATS but most folks acted as though I had just crapped in their Wheaties so I stopped.

The fickleness here at ATS is entirely member generated as well.

I agree with all of you. I promise to do my part by following rules, common sense, be nice(ish) etc. But here's the thing for me as a total newcomer, I join in on conversations, send U2U's and blam! ...nothing. I am NOT rushing to comment on every little thing or troll for s&f's or whaterver to get attention (no time for that) but it makes me feel inadequate when I get no feedback, even if someone were to tell me to shut the hell up. I lurked for a long ass time and still only post something when I have the intention of following up on it. I have yet to start my own thread but am making sure I have ample time to write it out thoughtfully, and get all the facts in place so that I can have an INTELLIGENT converstation about it. Anyway, my 2 cents.

Totally Off Topic - post it in the Religious Forum - this is exactly what the OP among many other members are talking about threads being derailed continuously!

Sorry to hear you feel this way McClainic however, I do think the feeling is mutual in many ways. I'm sure at some point, we have all been guilty of rubbish posting - myself included - especially when first signing up we can get a bit over enthusiastic.

I don't know how (I'm not a computer geek at all) but surely there is a way to incorporate some kind of step system on the site.
Could the Mods not categorise members according to age or quality of posts for instance or perhaps length of membership and so that we don't segregate to much and lose out by say, segregating younger members who perhaps have very mature, intelligent, well thought out threads - they could have a system whereby these people could jump up the ladder - the star and flag system could be used in a slightly different way.

Three strikes and you're demoted type of thing could be used - something to make folks think before they post new threads.

And I definitely think there should be firmer control of rudeness.

I feel your pain. However the search continues.

Try a good political debate. It absorbs the anger and cleanses the soul.

I've used an interesting method for a while now. When I have angry days, I type out my posts to get it out of me and then delete it without posting. Helps somehow and I don't piss people off.

i read these posts from ATS vets. in the short time i've been here i've seen this sentiment echoed every other day (approximately). sorry i can't relate, i've been here just weeks and i find ATS reminds me of a tabloid newspaper. overall it seems the online experience requires one to sift through a lot of dirt to find a gemstone, so i try to take it with a grain of salt.

my observation of ATS forums is there are posts that should be culled from threads, the earlier the better. there are too many people that would rather insult that discuss; their 'contribution' weakens the thread. there are a steady supply of noobs that post snark, troll and detract from threads; i've seen a few OP's get de-railed and ruined because of a few fools.

maybe when the user numbers drop off and fans have jumped shark someone in the Front Office will notice their is unhappiness amongst the rank & file.

OP i hope you don't leave. you write a good post, stay on topic well, state your case and make sense. This site needs members like you!

Maybe the novelty factor has wore off too? I remember when ATS was awesome. I'm not sure it's gone THAT much worse. More so I've probably got bored

Then why are you reading those threads? Have you started any of your own threads that are up to your HIGH standards?

I was sat here and by accident I just clicked on the ATS bookmark while trimming them, I've not read any other threads bar this one.

Just to point out a few thank you's for the nice comments and to the people saying that I was whinging, I have to say no, I was merely making a final statement of what I thought, whinging more relates to people constantly going on and on about the same problem thread after thread.

I have posted about it before but mainly I posted on genuine articles with no reference to myself.

As for posting 'high quality threads myself', pass, only others can judge if I've posted any useful threads, I certainly would like to think so at some points but I have no ego to feed.
