If you are a logical person, it follows that you will believe in GOD. Here is the reason.

So we assign points to each category.
Believing in God= BG
Not Believing in God= NBG
GOd Exists= GOD
GOD DOESNT EXIST= NG

1)So if there is a GOD and you BELIEVE IN GOD what happens? You go to church and miss having fun on sundays and dont kill or rape(sin) but you go to heaven for eternity. So the equation would be as follows
GOD(god exists) +BG (you believe in god)= 1000 points (eternal heaven)

You guys follows that. No we do another equation that god doesnt exist
2)god doesnt exist, you believe in god what happens? you miss out on sunday football, miss out on all the sins and when you die nothing happens, no judgment so you missed out on all the fun you wanted to have.
NO GOD (NG) + BG(believe in GOD)= -200 point (made no difference)

I gave this last one -200 points because you missed out on all the fun. BUT since there is no judgment in can not match ETERNAL HEAVEN.

3) GOD (god exists) +NBG(no believe in god)= -500 points (eternity in hell)
I gave this negative 500 points coz you end up spending forever in HELL. HOWEVER, you do have all the fun of commiting as many sins as you want and never having to go to church and so on. SO there is an upside to this.

4)N0 GOD (NG) +NO BELIEVE= 200 points (no judgment but you had fun)

So what Im saying is simple. Any logical, betting man would go ahead and be religious because what your GIVING UP (sins, sundays, etc) is well worth the outcome (ETERNAL HEAVEN).
EVEN if give up all those things and there is NO GOD, it does not compare to eternal heaven or eternal hell.

*I understand there are different faiths and the idea of which one to follow and so on but hey, its a start.
Oh you can go ahead and make your chart and add whatever points you want to it. but it will still come out the way this did.
Also, at the end of the day, there is just as much chance of a god as there is no chance of a god

Good post. You should quote Chuck Missler as a source. It's on video somewhere - I will have a look and see if I can find it. The video is quite powerful.

so you're saying you KNOW somebody would spend an eternity in hell if they dont believe in god? religious dogma doesn't exactly sit well on ATS fyi...I doubt you know anything definitive about the afterlife bud

you also make the assumption that if you don't believe in god you're going to go rape or kill...ugh

No, No, and No.

You really think if an omnipotent creature existed it would ever accept that you believed because you were hedgin' your bets?

How about you have a backbone.

There is no god.

You have no valid proof of the existence of god

You cant tell me what exist after death

You cant prove there is hell or heaven.

I'm sure God would appreciate us believing in him just because we don't want to end up in Hell.

The only god is the one that exists within yourself, your mind. There is no omniscient being, and your afterlife is nothing more than a huge entheogenic trip from the '___' that is released as you die.

this thread fails, as do your distorted archaic beliefs

we are all one

Pascals Wager is no reason to worship God. You're not doing it to correct your behavior or to Honor the Savior. Which pisses me off. Most Christians, yes MOST, miss the point entirely. They do this whole worship thing for the gifts and the payoff. That isn't why one should worship God. One should worship God out of Love and Respect; one should honor the Sacrifice of the Christ and feel so ashamed that God had to humble itself to our form just to save our asses. But of course, that's if you believe in that type of stuff.

Another issue with Pascal's wager is "Which God" There are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of Gods that could be the right one. There is no fix for worshiping the wrong one, now is there?

Here is what you should do: Drop the idea of God completely, it's something outside yourself that you can't connect with. Worship that Creator that all are a part of. Worshiping the O N E will have you respecting yourself and seeing all others as yourself....but, that's just me on my soapbox, so do whatever you desire in this world...chances are you'll be here for a repeat performance anyways.

I understand the logic you're using and trying to get across, BUT if you think about the facts, it's pretty clear that god does exist &| that you should believe in him or face the consequence.

The way i see it is, we're not here forever, we all will die sometime, so i sort of look at life a pop quiz from god. Get popped in, do what's right and you'll be saved.

Stop.

You assigned 1000 points for believing in God.
You subtracted, and ended with a -200 for not believing in God.

Bias, much?

If you are going to assign values to things they would have to be equal values. Believing in God and not believing in God, at the very least, would have to be equal. Otherwise all of your numbers are skewed to give believers a higher ending number. And since a positive number is presumed more valuable than a negative number, you can hardly say they are equal. Have fun working the numbers based on that.

Edit to add:
Further, this makes no sense at all. A person that doesn't believe in God isn't going to be concerned with Hell in the first place!! Two minutes of my life....gone.

Yeah, that's why I also believe in Odin, and Ishtar, and Ra and Osiris, and keep kosher, and follow the Eight-Fold Path of Buddha, and worship the Great Spirit, and Jack O' Green, and Satan, and Zeus, and Mohammed and Jesus. Just to make sure all my bases are covered.

in my opinion believing in god or not shouldn't have anything to do with entry to heaven because after all, you might be a great person, pure heart and good.

but never mind

It's called Pascals Wager and it's a very common failure as an argument.

Glad someone picked out Pascals Wager from a mile away. This is one of those classic logical fallacies that people fall for way too often.

You go to church and miss having fun on sundays and dont kill or rape(sin) but you go to heaven for eternity.

So according to your logic, if you don't go to church on sunday, you are a rapist?

Rape in a church is niether rape nor a sin? What is it? just surprise sex?

I am sure you don't really think this.

My question is why are there so many threads where people are trying to push their beliefs on everyone else?
This goes for athiests too.
It's like every time you turn around there is a new thread saying if you don't believe in go your stupid, or god doesn't exist and if you follow a religion your stupid.

Who cares what other people believe or don't believe? It's none of your business.

I was sitting here wondering how to reply to this thread, going back and forth between "OP, your post is juvenile and you should not be thinking this way" and "You meant well, at least..." but I really need not say anything more thanks to your post, which is somewhat similar to how I feel.

If God exists, why would he judge you after this life and not during?

How many times have we had threads here on this subject, same old story...... now with bonus points!
