Introducing myself - looking for a thread which appears to have vanished!

Hey there! I am a long-long time lurker (have been lurking for some 5-6 years for now), but had never really posted anything. I come from Portugal and have always been interested in general UFO/financial meltdown conspiracies (I know, totally unrelated). I have noticed that, recently, the alien found in Buryatia thread has disappeared from the UFO/Aliens subforum. Does anyone have any idea about what may have happened? Am I touching sensitive information?

Its only a sensitive subject from what i read earlier, because its from another forum thats copied ATS posts, im sure someone ill point out the thread about it.

It still shows up in the search function, but it 404´s when you click it.

If it was a hoax it should be in the hoax forum, so i don´t know why it is removed.

I would like to know though, maybe you could contact a mod.

My first reaction was to go to the Hoax forum, thinking that it had already been disproved, but didn't find it there either...

The video in question is by a VERY well known Internet Hoaxer..

ATS is NOT the place to discuss someones video editing ability when combined with a perverse need to "fool the public" on the scale this seems to be happening; especially with this particular hoaxer..

AboveTopSecret is the place for more serious discussion of serious topics...

The thread was in fact deleted and all threads regarding this will be removed..

Would it not have better off leaving at least 1 of the threads in the hoax forum, for future reference. At least then when it crops up again (and you know it invariably will) we can point people in the direction of the proof that it is a hoax?

Otherwise it'll just titivate the more conspiracy minded of folks, who'll think that this site is also trying to shut down discussion on a subject that they deem to be valid. Without the proof to back it up, this can, and probably will happen.

Is that personal opinion or was it proven a hoax, and if it was, why was it deleted and not put in the hoax forum, like other hoaxes?

There's a great deal of paranoia naturally associated with conspiracies, as we should all know.
My personal opinion with regards to the deletion of such threads (as apposed to them being placed in the Hoax Bin) is that by deleting them, you can only but fuel this fire of paranoia.

For clarification, are you stating that the thread in question merely turned into a glorification of the hoaxers abilities, after it was decided the video was fakery?
I could then easier understand the desire to delete it so as to not be seen as promoting such behaviour, but I must agree with others that to eliminate all traces of this (and, you say, any subsequent highlighting of the issue too?) from your site makes for potential new conspiracy theories all in itself!

Agreed, especially if a mod adresses questions regarding the deleted thread in such a vague and non transparent way.

I assume but the mere mention of the name of this hoaxer, invokes their spirit and dooms us all for eternity, right?
Are they on par with the likes of "G_D", or "YHWH"...(phew, nearly said 'Tetragrammaton' there instea...oh sh-! *facepalm*, now we're doomed!)...or wouldn't it simply be more prudent to just tell people who the hoaxer is?

Or does defamation Law come into play if you do?

Actually, that was the effect it had on me and what motivated to open this topic: I became extremely suspicious when I did not see any reference to the original thread in the Aliens/UFOs section, nor in the Hoax subforum.

Maybe it was this thread? here If not, look up Sorcha Faal in the search function.
