Exactly they just laughed because they have been bailed out so many times the numbers don't seem to affect them. The treasurer quit finally but instead of doing the books she hired an outside company to try to piece them together every year and gave them no help. They finally complained to the state that somethings wrong.

The water department wasn't billing 40% of the residents and there was no way to get your water shut off if you didn't pay. I was getting billed $580 a month for water and sewer then the townshp took over my place and found out I was getting the bill for a large clinic about 3 blocks away that had never been sent a bill. Te water department workers will not go in a hole to fix a leak so every leak is repaired by an outside contractor. Around the corner from me water has been bubbling out of the ground for the 2 years I've lived here even in the winter.

Because unions are negotiating with politicians who are then beholden to those same unions to get re-elected - Politicians pay them whatever they demand because they are using taxpayers money.

Its an obviously corrupt system - with totally predictable results!

I think I get it now...national resistance will not be brought about against the federal government. Instead, it will be bred on a smaller scale to control the dissolution of the U.S.....brilliant.

Try going back here it's the local paper and everything has been in it at least a time or two. I live and work in the town and am trying to open a business. Actually I'm across the street in the township now, much better

do you have any say on what a union does or how it votes and any responsiblity in it.

the union dictates to the people what it does not everyone in a union has all the same ideas.

a union may vote on any given issue but as the old saying goes doesnt matter who votes but only who counts them

a small group runs a union with complete and total totalatarian authoritarian rule.

the is nothing democratic about a union class warfare within an organization that is suppose to be for the people

where senority rules and if you dont have it your nothing.

Well, first we don't elect a progressive democrat Canadian that raises our taxes during a recession - and we've been in a recession - actually a depression - for nearly a decade. Second, we stop sending progressive self appointed gods named Levin to Washington. Then we stop throwing money at the money sucking unions - teachers, auto, teamsters - take your pick.

Then as an added bonus we're not going to allow our local municipalities spend every damn penny in sight until we are bankrupt. We tried to tell them, we are broke, we tried to tell them, stop. The final step is of course taking a big old roll of duct tape and wrapping it around the head of the next silly fool that claims that we live in a democracy. We live in a democratic republic. Democracy is mob rule. Michigan is a prime example of what happens when fools convince themselves they live in a democracy. When it reached the point where the Unions have abused their power to the point that public employees are paid way above the pay possible in private industry and services, which it has and they continue to demand even more, how exactly do you fix the problem?

The States are broke and the Unions are a huge part of the cause.

Now, I'm not anti-union at all by the way, but I am anti-corruption and I am against the Unions abusing their power in the way they have. Unions are supposed to fix problems, not create them. Nor is their function to increase public employees pay and benefits to the level it bankrupts the States and causes taxes so high it hurts the citizens. It's beyond reason to tax people who work harder, for less money to pay even more to people who are already overpaid and have obscene benefits.

You misuse the word Fascism entirely here, but I won't go there. Are you in fact for running head on into the same mess the old Soviet Union is still recovering from?

What is happening here, is that the food (money) supply is running out and the Unions are clamoring to eat more than their share by stealing the food gathered by others and leaving those who gathered the food to starve. It's pure greed and corruption. So how do we ignore the corruption happening in this regard and then place the blame on government and ignore the fact that it all happened by government buying Union Members votes? Both the politicians in buying votes and those pandering for the bribes hold equal blame.

Anyone who has ever dealt with government agencies knows for a fact that government workers are so buried under the bureaucracy and incompetent, they do a fraction of the work of the private sector for often twice the pay. Who pays for that? The people who are paid less for more work.

What I see now is fence straddlers all over the place. While being part of the problem themselves, many now want to continue being showered with money for their votes while they in turn demand more cookies from the empty cookie jar. How hypocritical and transparently dishonest is that?

We have one side now going too far, like this Emergency Manager issue and the other going too far the other way because they want their unearned handouts and care more about that, than the fact they are going to destroy the entire economy with their insane demands. There is no right side here. Just irrational demands from both sides.

This is totally wrong, and disgusting in so many ways.

Yes, hence why unions used to be called "democracy in the workplace". Back when there were still honest ideologues. Now there are just neo-ideologues, on both sides it seems.

Of course there are shining examples of ACTUAL democracy in the workplace that probably make the neo-ideologue's heads explode. What, voting on raises? Preposterous I say! But those companies work very very well, and turn a profit always. Because when everyone gets an equal share of the profit, guess what they're equally invested in? But I digress...

Sorry to but in, but I saw my name and thought you were impersonating me.

It was my understanding the thread was about rampant abuse of power by an over reaching Governor who has usurped the will of his constituents by deeming their duly elected officials null and void.

But that is just how I interpreted the thread title and OP "Emergency manager" has now taken over elected officials...Elections? Doesn't matter anymore. Unless you were merely diverting to discuss unions in which case I'd just be re-diverting. Two wrongs don't make a right but three lefts do.
