Briton 'beaten to death' in a Dubai police cell after being arrested for swearing

A British tourist was beaten to death by officers in a Dubai police station after being arrested for swearing, it was claimed yesterday.

Lee Bradley Brown, 39, was on holiday at a £1,000-a-night hotel in the Arab state when he was thrown into a filthy cell.

Police sources say he was ‘badly beaten up’ by a group of police officers, leaving him unconscious on the floor.

Inmates told how they watched officers bundle him into a body-bag and drag him out of the building.

During Mr Brown’s six days in Bur Dubai police station, guards refused to give him enough food and water and did not let him see a lawyer, it is alleged.

Doesn't matter in which country you are, there's always cops who shouldn't be cops... beating people up for fun or to show how ``manly`` they are... pure scum.

This sounds like a disgusting and unfortunately common occurance in todays world, standard issue, POLICE BRUTALITY. They are scum enforcers of the nwo and the corrupt cops helping to destroy this world must be brought to justice.

This really is crazy but I wonder what really happened.

The reason I ask this is due to two things,

Firstly it is being reported in the Daily Mail, a paper with a reputation for hating anything thats skin is a shade darker than your average brits.

Secondly a very good friend of mine was arrested in Dubai and was in the same prison (long story but essentially he was working there without a Visa) he was released without charge after 6 months and deported. having spoken to him since he said that the guards in the prison were in fact friendly and helpful because he was a westerner, the guards apparently treated the pakistani and black elements of the prison with despise but the whites were treated like royalty.

I would very much like to see a slightly less biased report on what has happened.

This is one of the most sickening stories I have heard in a long time!

In fact it is down right disgusting and I hope the guards responsible rot in hell.

All that for swearing, damn i'll be sure to drop Dubai of the list of shatholes I plan on visiting.

Some of these English louts on holiday are so offensive in their behaviour, It wouldnt surprise me if he brought it on himself with extreme beligerance.

It seems like a very sketchy report to me, and as another poster said, the daily mail is an unreliable rag run by bigots and racists so who knows what the full story is.

a quick google shows this is being reported by news carriers of many levels, not just the bid cage liner tabloids. and i'm thinking a fellow that can afford to pay such sums to enjoy plush hotel accommodations is not your average pint drinking factory chav. we'll be hearing more about this one.

i'm surprised to see the shock & rage in this thread. this type of thing happens across the USA pretty regularly, and over the years we have lost many outspoken musicians and stand-up comedians to this kind of behavior. maybe i'm jaded from being so use to American LEO's almost never being found guilty of any wrong doing after undergoing careful, intense scrutiny by their co-workers & best friends. If LEO's and correction officers beating, tazering and shooting unarmed civilians is good enough for Americans it should be good enough for Brits too, no?

UK officials visited the police station where he was being held before his death but were told he did not want to meet them.

This is however an isolated case as my previous post insinuates.

Contrary to your statement I believe that westerners should not avoid these places at all but when travelling to these "stoneage" civilisations they should actually adhere to the rules and regulations that are enforced in these countries

Swearing in public is an offence and hence he should have been locked up, this however does not detract from the fact that the way he was treated was inhumane and incorrect.

I have many friends that have lived in the UAE and had a fantastic time.

You're surprised a man is beaten to death for swearing in a region of the world where girls are stoned to death for being rape victims... Just because some of the countries in that region are able to put up the facade of being civilised, with their pricey hotels and rich tourists, doesn't mean their people, police forces or legal systems are. Stone age attitudes are not welcome in the modern world and countries with such corrupt systems and terrible human rights records should have heavier sanctions on them than they currently do. If they want to live in the stone age stop trading with them, completely, let their economies fail and their people suffer until they learn how to behave. Yes this kind of thing can happen in any western country too, but with far less frequency and with big investigations that follow so I don't accept those people's opinions who are trying to draw a parallel between this event and those abuses that have taken place in the west.

In no civilised society is it ever ok to be arrested for swearing, to be denied a lawyer or consular assistance, and to be beaten half to death and left unattended in a filthy cell to die, and if you think that kind of thing can go unpunished in the west you're welcome to emigrate to any country in the middle east , but don't come crying to your former government when you break one of their ridiculous laws and are facing losing your hands, your eyes, or your life. At least our laws can be challenged as they are written by men, how can you challenge a legal system that believes the invisible man knows best?!?

In addition I challenge anyone to find me a middle eastern country with milder laws and punishments than any European nation, don't try to tell me that countries that consider kissing in public a detainable offence have the first idea about human rights and liberty, and you can bash our culture all you like but at least our brand of freedom is closer to the real thing than theirs.

being an american tourist these days is risking your life...we either can be hurt for all the crap our own government has put the citizens of a foreign country through....or be kidnapped and held for ransom.

For the story: Where is the shock? I am willing to bet that I could find a story of a man being killed while in police custody in almost every country in the world.

Unfortunately, police are people, and like people come in many different sizes, shapes, colours, and levels of sanity.

The police there refuse to speak English to the tourists they work so hard to attract

Their jails are described as being the worst in the world

Having lunch at Burwood Westfield shopping mall in Sydney a while ago

We were seated in the 3rd floor outdoor eating area, overlooking Burwood Road and the park opposite

Two young Australian girls, couldn't have been more than fifteen years of age, were seated close by us. They were demurely dressed, shy and obviously wanted simply to enjoy their meal

Into the area came a gang (because they travel in gangs, like most cowards and bullies) of muslim louts -- about eight of them

Those muslim kids scream for attention. Once they get it, they do everything in their power to shock and insult their audience

So they began calling the two girls every filthy name under the sun. And as you'd know, arabs like to involve copulation between mules and camels - and their victims. Or their victims' mothers or sisters

I speak some arabic, learned during my long association with numerous Lebanese. So I understood what they were saying to the girls

The poor girls sat there eating their meals. They couldn't understand what was being said to them, but they couldn't evade the knowledge that it was being directed at them and it wasn't nice. It couldn't be nice, because first one, then another of the muslim louts would say something in arabic and point to the girls -- after which the louts would s'n-word' and make sexual gestures with their arms and hands

I went to the noisiest lout and told him I understood what he was saying. Suggested he stop or I'd call security

At that (after his jaw dropped momentarily) he began screeching to the rest of the gang who were in the park opposite. ' Yalla, yalla ! ' etc.

The muslim thugs in the park went into hunt mode and began streaming across the road towards the shopping mall entrance (over which we were seated). They caused cars to screech to a halt. Then, with all the swagger of half a dozen primitive thugs in a gang, they swore at the blameless drivers

I suggested to the girls that they leave the area and head towards Centre Management. Meanwhile, the thugs surrounding us went into monkey mode, gesticulating, screaming, phoning for 'back up' on their mobiles, lol. So predictable. They're so predictable, it's laughable. One on one, they're rabbits. Six together and they think they're in their favourite action-fantasy

Unfortunately for them, the open-air section of Burwood shopping mall isn't quite the same as a Dubai jail. They weren't brave enough to kill me on the spot (and I'm an old woman). So they did the ' I slice your throat' gesture with their fingers across their necks and --- jabbering like a monkey pack -- began to stream from the area

Tell you something --- muslim thugs who've been running roughshod over Western populations better clean up their act before they head to Dubai for a holiday - because muslim thugs in Australia have the filthiest mouths that Satan ever inflicted on this planet

Privately though, I hope Westernised muslim loud mouths * DO * take their filth to Dubai -- even though it would be a case of taking coal to Newcastle
