I was out throwing paper airplanes in my yard with my kids when I noticed this rainbow. It was upside-down and in the clouds. I have never seen anything like it, so I took a picture to share with all you ATSers. I just thought it was unusual. I don't think it means anything, I just wanted to share it.

Where abouts was the photo taken?

I am not sure which threads, but there have been postings on here before with similar rainbow clouds appearing before a major earthquake. The most memorable one I remember was just before the major earthquake in China in Sichuan Province.

Some locals had taken a short video and still photos of these rainbow type clouds, just hours before the major earthquake struck.

You are correct....I want to know where this was too...the sky looked like this in Chile and Haiti just before the quakes as well.

very strange,im in northen sweden and saw the same thing today.the way i can explain is,first i saw the rainbow concave towards the sun then after a wile when i lookedd again it was convex towards the sun.
keeping in mind the sun was on the west side of it on both ocasions

I don't waste my time or your time to add to the delusion here on ATS. This is an actual, unedited picture. The rainbow was up in the clouds and upside down. Like I said, I have never seen anything like it. I thought it was cool, so I shared it here. Nothing ground breaking, no UFO's hiding in the clouds, no witches flying by on broomsticks, just an unusual oddity of nature.

The sun is going down and not near it. It has been a picture perfect day here and no normal reason for a rainbow. I know the picture makes it look overcast here, but it's not. I don't have the best camera. The sky was nice and blue with minimal clouds. Except around the rainbow. Must have been precipitation in the cloud level. Just odd. I have no explanation, but I'm sure there is a perfectly sound meteorological reason.

that's funny because when i was driving on 680 south in san jose cali it was directly in front of me. my gf and i saw the exact same thing. i've never seen one before so i googled it when i got home. google said it has something to do with ice crystals in the atmosphere.

I saw this today in Texas near the DFW airport around 2:30-3:00 or so. It was pretty cool lookin lol my guess would be that it was the result of a reflection of some sort of moisture in the atmosphere or from the clouds. I forgot to mention when I saw it there was a VERY THIN cloud covering the the sun and surrounding sky where this rainbow was visible.
