Thank you for this information topic writer.

As you know already or would now be aware of, there are people who follow the government and there are those who do not. ATS is for those who question the government and possible information they are withholding.

....then there are those who attend to ' attempt to debunk and troll ' others.

Just keep in mind there are many who appreciate your existence and keeping us at ATS informed. Thanks again!

and remember.. trolls will be trolls.

Sorry OP, but your source is nonsense.

They write, in part:

Two of the biggest worries are the fact that the comet still has to pass through both the Oort and Asteroid belts and could therefore bring about large amounts of debris with its passing. So far, Astronomers can not see the comet clearly with any telescopes so the comet could very well have debris already with it and this could only get way worse with anything it picks up when it passes through both of these belts.

See there?? The mention of the Oort Cloud? (They seemed to call it a "belt", incorrectly). Do you know how far out the Oort Cloud is?? No? Well, apparently neither does the author of that junk piece.....the ignorance in that "article" is astonishing. Meant to fear-monger, perhaps? Might be worth it to look deeper into that source, and motives.

Further ignorance is displayed in the suggestion that the comet will "pick up" debris as it moves inward....supposedly from within the "Asteroid Belt". This is nonsense, and shows utter lack of astronomy comprehension, orbital mechanics, etc. Elenin (its nucleus, for that is really what the comet is) is estimated to be about 4-5 km in diameter. Comets tend to be loose accumulations of mostly "dirty ice", perhaps a few metallic elements. At that size it certainly does NOT have enough gravitational attraction due to mass, to be able to "pull" asteroids out of their trajectories, on orbit. (ALSO....would be important to look into its orbital inclination, relative to the plane of the Solar System's ecliptic. It very well cold be eccentric enough to be well "north" or "south" of the plane of orbits of most Solar System bodies).

Furthermore, the Asteroid Belt itself is extremely wide-spread......people have a faulty perception of it, and think it's a solid "wall" of boulders, or something.

All of the science and facts and reality of our Solar System, and its components, can be researched easily online. I have to wonder: When people find "junk"-science articles such as in the basis of your OP and then post them....why do they never bother to FACT-CHECK first??

Here's an illustration I made of YU 55's path by Earth, from 12:00 UTC 8-NOV-11 to 12:00 UTC 9-NOV-11. It poses no danger of collision:
