To see more then only your reflection in the mirror, to see something within, is awareness.

So, the guy walking down the street seemingly having a conversation with himself/gods/aliens/ghosts might not be so crazy after all.

They cleverly allow us to be aware that they are listening and watching our every step yet we still believe that our thoughts are our own and safe inside our minds and also that our thoughts are not simply a result of conditioning and programming hmmmmmm....

The knowledge presented by thr OP is reality yet IMHO only a charade to help people believe that their thoughts are still safe inside their heads.
People generally hate this thought and thus, we must GO there.
To say that the our brain is electric would be incomplete yet to say our brains are bio chemical electric would be more the reality. We can also go on to say that WE are simply a collection of Neurons and that WE think as they would have us think!

Are not corporations and the government one and the same these days? It's getting harder and harder for me to tell the two apart.

For instance, it wouldn't really be the government keeping the databases anyway, but rather some corporation/s that would be working with/for the government. I happen to think that the government is the biggest patron of these info sales and quite possibly behind the whole thing to begin with. However, I believe that the corporations are behind government also (certainly behind elections and policies), thus fogging up any differences between the two.

Someone posted a screen shot of a program called "Peerblocker." Peerblocker 1.1. It tells you who's trying to connect to your computer, what IP address they're coming from, what port they're coming from and what port they're trying to connect to you through.

I downloaded it. And lo and behold:

It also saves everyone trying to access your PC in a log file. All kinds of organizations, universities, and governments have been hitting my computer alone.

Go download it.

Who cares if they're watching us online?

Just give them something to look at and laugh at it!

Peer block does indeed monitor connections to your computer and will block ones from certain places, it mostly blocks addresses from government institutions, educational places and known anti p2p companies as it's aimed at file sharers.

I've had some pretty odd connections listed on peerblock too

I've heard about quantcast before and visited their website on multiple occasions. Before you drag them into conspiracy theories go to their website and see what they do. They don't collect personal data that can be traced back to you as far as I can tell. They just count how many people visit websites. They're a great resource for advertisers. Say you want to know the demographics of people visiting a website; you wouldn't want to advertise on a site frequented by kids, if you're selling something usually bought by 40 year olds, right?

Try typing in abovetopsecret.com at quantcast

I understand why people would be paranoid about this, I really do. But the data they collect is averaged together and isn't linked directly to you, or so I believe.

Quantcast really is a great resource for advertisers.

I got news for all of you. Every email, instant message, web page you send/go to is recorded and can be filtered indefinitely to just one single key word. Data is archived for 10 years and then refreshed constantly.

There is no where to hide online anymore, no virus protector, firewall and even soon to be proxy can hide you. This is happening at the ISP level, there is no way to hide.

How do I know? Because I've used and seen the "black boxes" that are being made for ISP's, Gov, anyone to accomplish this.

It's real, it's here and it's being used as we speak.

There is a very useful add-on for Firefox users called NoScript. Anyone who wishes to block any content whatsoever from running on any webpage should use it.

It can be found here.

I highly recommend it. It is useful for much more than simply blocking ads.

What about all of those apps on your android device that come with the phone that you can't remove. I installed unofficial firmware on my phone and suddenly my battery life went from 1 day, to 4 days. The only difference between the two roms was that the unofficial one had all the default carrier applications removed.

That means the cell phone was doing a lot of processing all the time. I wonder what for?

Wait people still surf the web openly? In my opinion if you don't know how to mask your identity online, or simply just don't care, you deserve the invasion of privacy.
