Well I suppose the "partial shutdown" is "semi-in-effect"

I tend to lurk here more than contribute, so many will not be familiar with me. Proof is a tenant of this website, however I cannot provide this, further than has already been established. To do so would be giving away my own personal information.

For those not familiar with me, I am active duty in the US Army, and come mid-month I will only be receiving half a paycheck according to my leave and earnings statement (LES). My LES is my proof so please understand why I cannot share this with you; it's basically my pay stub. This will be the last pay my family receives until the budget is sorted out.

Im only making this thread in response to other's who have made claims that, in essence, say "oh they would never do that", or, "don't worry they will still pay the military." example

As it stands now, many soldiers, marines, airmen, and seamen (who are less than prepared for this than I am) will soon be forced to choose between paying their bills and feeding their families...unless an agreement is reached for a budget - and soon - this is going to get pretty ugly for a lot of folk.

Im not asking for help, Im not asking for any action, I just thought you folk should know how stubborn your employees are. Oh and on that note, congress gets to choose whether or not they themselves will receive pay during this shutdown....how f'ed is that?

Hey good luck man! Family readiness at our base is going to be handing out $500 loans for people who need it but it will be really hard taking a loan from them because they will just take that # whenever they want too.

Don't feel alone. We'll all be helping each other out. Wife and I will be going to the commisary Sunday, helping out those that need it.
At work, I'll be brnging in lunches etc.
We're family, a fraternity. We won't let each other suffer.

Likewise, and I hope all this can be cleared up sooner rather than later. In the meantime, good luck.

My wife and I would most likely do the same if we could, however the preparations that we have made extend no further than paying this months bills and food for a few more.

I am hoping we all can do something for our military here. I would gladly start food/clothes drives and volunteer. But I'm more for getting rid of our Congressional Stooges for the rich, kicking the Fed in the butt and taking our country back!
But that's just me.
Is anyone else organizing for this shut down? I mean organizing to help people in need.....

Oh and my office manager is doing tweets to get people in DC to dump their trash that won't be picked up, onto the steps of the Capitol. I don't think that will go over well without hundreds to do it at the same time, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.

If the government shuts down and soldiers go without pay, I anticipate a great protest next week. Some cities are going without tax paid garbage disposal circulation and dropping their garbage on a congressman's doorstep. Heh.

Either way, sh*t may hit the fan next week.

Those than can help, will. Those that can't or on the line, should think about their families first. My wife and I have been fortunate, and our needs are few.

Plus, I gotta look after my troops.

Nice back pedal Beezzer, I'm gettin' misty. This is the cause you've championed all along. I suspect base privileges for retirees won't last long given limited resources, short staffing and heightened alert status. As far as lunch goes, hope you have an infinite supply as I suspect shortages forthcoming. Besides, I'm surprised you stated you work as I would swear you mentioned you no longer did in a prior post. I'll need to dig that up. You've demonstrated time and time again your heartless insensitivity to those less fortunate than your self and your close clan. In short, kindly spare use the faux empathy.

Dear OP:

Thank you for your personal account and I applaud your service to this country. I'm deeply troubled by your impending hardship. Thanks for exposing the myths in such a neutral tone and I applaud your calm and rational demeanor as I'm certain I couldn't contain my rage. I'm hopeful you and yours will be provided for as a reward for your bravery and devotion to our country. GOD Bless America and protect us from future harm. Regards...kk

I think it will take more than a couple missed paychecks to supplant the average soldiers fear of insubordination, and the repercussions thereof. Unfortunately, it wont take much longer than that; hunger is a powerful motivator.
*IF*, and this is a b-i-g *if*, this isnt resolved soon many who like myself reside off post, i.e. who do not physically live on the instillation they work at, will be forced to choose sooner rather than later between spending money on gas to and from work 5 days a week, and just not going to work (and facing the consequences).

Go for it, spanky. I'm in the trenches and don't pontificate with other peoples money or other peoples lives. Like some others I could mention. I put my money where my mouth is.
You?
You hide behind rhetoric and anger. Go peddle you vile bitterness in an "I heart Obama" thread.

That should tell everyone that is in the military something right there. To the government leaders, you are essential (you have to work), but not valuable (you don't have to be paid for your services).

Even if this shutdown doesn't happen, or happens and gets sorted out quickly, the above fact still remains, and the fact still remains that our country is heading downhill fast. I hope this experience tells you whose side you should be on when we hit bottom.

Thank you for serving.

Nope, but the politicians can go home AND get paid.

Ain't that lovely?

Thought that I would add in something my daughter-in-law just posted: "Great the Gov't isn't paying my Husband right now. Housing tried to kick us out of our house. Because of budget cuts the company isn't getting their share . Oh and our commissary is closed until further notice."

My son is an A1C up in NJ.

Little discussed fact... The USSR's economic woes eventually lead to them no longer being able to make timely payments to their soldiers. Many of those soldiers went AWOL and returned to their nation states of origin and dug in for the coming wars of independence against the Soviet government. This aided and sped up the complete collapse of the Soviet Union.

...not that history could or does ever repeat itself in matters such as this.
