How many gas stations in your area are owned and operated by middle-eastern people?

If they have any type of conspiracy to bring us down and hurt us, they dole out practically all the gasoline!~

This is in Texas, at least.

I don't know about the next 6 months, but there is no doubt that a 1930's style depression is coming soon, and it will be much worse than the 30's, because back then people didn't drive or fly nearly as much, they knew how to cook for themselves, and they had a tough and stubborn work ethic.

These days in the US far too many people are weak, timid, irresponsible, and expecting a handout. A 1930's style depression will literally kill many people. How do you eat if McD's is closed? What do you do about a runny nose if Urgent Care is closed? What do you do when you run out of plastic cups and disposable diapers? Oh my God, the horror!

Well, I guess I should be considered a fortunate one since where I live (southern Laos) they do not even know what a McD is! Even less Urgent Care if that matter.

I see more and more as lucky people the "primitive" villagers living near me, they will be the ones to lose less in all this mess and I hope I will be able to cope with them once the SHTF, because sooner or later it will.

We are too dependent to technology and others work to survive any "apocalyptic" scenario (economical, man made or nature revenge doesn't matter) that only a couple of hundred years ago would not have the same consequences at all...

Good luck to everyone.

ULTIMATELY everything equalizes ... it's just the way the world works ... I think bad policy will be punished and bad business practice will eventually result in failure... things to me are just following their course... the dollar will fall... panic will happen... but cooler heads will prevail and things will even out, that's just my view..

I don't think it will be this huge mass hysteria .. i think it will level out ... dramatic change, yes, but in a systematic way.. I don't subscribe to this whole "OMGWTFENDOFTHEWORLD" rhetoric.. I think we're smarter than that.. but I do think things will change, simply because they need to.

You're smarter than that, yet naive.

a world of practical difference....

Seriously, listen to the stupid # people say day in and day out....

You think the average person will come together once things get rough???

Hollywood has done quite the trick on your mind, fool.

I'm a programmer and I'm analytical, naive I appreciate as a compliment of my age
but it doesn't pan out with my experience.. I believe in averages... I do believe things will level out .. it just takes time...

Time is oone of those things the world is short on though....
If things do level out somewhere below subsistance level itll be ugly all reight.
The North American economy may crash, but we are in great shape for self sustaing our own two countries.
Between the oil water and natural resources in Canada /alaska
And the massive military power to the south, itll be a while yet before we are brought to our lknees globally.
We have the best ships planes and weapons systems.
We have the most experienced army.
The world will fare much worse than we will in a great depression scenario.
Well get through it.
And well become the richest country in the world oncemore afterwards too.

The biggest thing to fear is "human Nature".
Nothing in nature has the rampant faults that man has.
While we have redeaming moments
the expresion "one bad apple spoils the barrel" comes to mind...
it doesn't take much to effe things up for everyone...

when there is a lot
take a lot
when there is only a little
take it all...

Certain of man has a kind of stupidity about themselves...
count on it...
Lowness as a virtue...

nature is what it is
Man chooses to be what he is
that's what I am wary of

Maxit's got the right idea. A country like Laos gets a bad rep from the rest of Asia as its seen as a backwards nation, but most of its population have lived the same way since forever and have never been reliant on supermarkets o government handouts. When I took the slow boat down the Mekhong and saw the father's fishing while the kids give you a wave made me kind of envious of their lives. Most people I know will turn into cannibals within a few weeks of TSHTF. I'm hoping my in-laws will take us in if/when things go tits up, as their pretty self sufficient.

Wish I had some positive words for the OP about the state of the US and where it's headed.

Like they say;

"When America sneezes, the rest of the world catches the cold!"

This news from alternative media in Australia;

"The point is this: The profit growth for all stocks in the ASX20 is an impressive 35.44% for 2010 versus 2009.

If you remove banking stocks, the profit growth is an excellent 24.12%. If you add back banking stocks and remove resources stocks, profit growth is a very good 20.86%.

But here's the bombshell... if you remove banking and resources stocks, profit growth for 2010 was... minus 3.72%:
All Stocks 35.44%
All stocks ex banks 24.12%
All stocks ex resources 20.86%
All stocks ex resources and banks -3.72%

In other words, profits shrunk. All profits by the top twenty stocks in the Australian economy in 2010 were made by the banking and resources sector.

It's conclusive proof of Australia's two-speed economy."

In my opinion things will be much much worse than the Great Depression of the 1930's.

Back in the 1930's the US still manufactured and exported goods. Now we are a nation of Importers. We do not make anything in the US anymore.

Back in the 1930's there was no such thing as a home loan, and no one had enormous credit card debt.

When this house of cards comes tumbling down, it will make the Great Depression look like a nice walk in the park on a bright sunny beautiful day.

It's called normalcy bias.

Look it up.

Here, I did it for you:

Normalcy Bias

I realize I'm acting like a jerk, but it gets old hearing adults act like infants that have no clue. It does more harm than good.

I'm like you, never get sick; very healthy...and I am just getting over a three week respiratory infection that 'took me down'. If there had been an emergency while I was sick with this, I wouldn't have been able to do much...very weak...so that is something to think about. How will you take care in an emergency if you truly are sick. Just another thing to prepare for, and stock up on...things to help ease your symptoms and help you function.
