There are many accounts of sunburn, red eyes, swollen and puffy eyes and vision problems after reported encounters with aliens/ufo's. The only other situation where I've seen this is from snow blindness or from failure to wear goggles at extremely high elevations. Both of these situations expose the individual to high UV light. Also, uv lights have been used to locate marked cattle in herds that have lost members due to cattle mutilation.

My guess is that the lenses would be specifically for protection from high intensity actinic light or from UV light that is used as a low visibility surveillance, search method. Other uses could be as a low light amplifier like night vision if the technology is sufficiently advanced.

Just a theory.

Great theories for the thread, thanks!

its belived that if they do live in the zetareticuli system, the two suns thre would provide some problems

The two stars of the Zeta Reticuli system are very similar in size and light output and color to the Sun. Planets in the habitable zones of either star would receive a similar amount and quality of light as Earth does. If they greys are very sensitive to what we consider light of normal brightness, it may be because they are from a planet of a small, dim, reddish star of the M class. Large eyes might well be needed to see well in such light. This has to do not only with low light level, but the fact that larger eyes would be needed to see with comparable sharpness in longer wavelength, predominantly red and infrared light. Our light colors, other than red and orange, could be harmful to their eyes, as ultraviolet light is with us. They might need to protect their eyes with dark coverings. Witness drawings of greys sometimes show markedly different eyes shapes. This suggests the existence of different styles or models of dark eye coverings. Ross

Some good points you raise there Ross!

Ive always been confused with the different versions of eye size also, so this may explain it!

Their whole outer skin is a suit like out astronauts use, or you can call it an environment suit or exo suit. The thin black lens absorbs almost 100% of all light making them almost hypnotic to look at as there is no reflection just a black void, it enables the aliens to see at night, like our night vision cameras, and also in other frequencies that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. Its biologic technology. The suit also has built in muscles that makes the alien surprisingly strong and fast, conceptually the exo suit is much like the suit used in computer games like Crysis. The alien exo suit also has many other features that are pretty much science fiction to us at our current level of technology.

They greys are generally reported to be very slight of build. This suggests existence on a planet with lower gravity than Earth. Less bone mass and less musculature to support the body and move against a weaker gravity field. This could be in accord with the planet of a small star, as described above. With less total mass in the system, it seems likely that planets would tend to be smaller and lighter, too, and so have weaker gravity. Reports of greys floating and flying suggests that they may have some means of individually controlling the force of gravity. This may compensate for burdensomely strong gravity on Earth. Ross

U meant Jonathan Reed's alien footage? That is not a grey, thats a reptilian of a lower class

pure speculation.
reptilians exist less then the greys imo.

low resolution does not count as a point of proof.
neither does "channeling", your mind tells you what you want to hear.

I wouldnt say spindly little bodies mean they are from a small planet.

if humans had the technology to disregard gravity on a personal basis or spent a few generations in space, our bodies would look just like theirs, in zero gravity you dont need muscle mass.

The greys as they are called have improved their own genes in such a manner that they are not the same creatures that originated from their home world. Their brain is bigger and more advanced, they can handle large amounts of radiation, they no longer need to eat to feed but also have the ability to get energy directly from sunlight, and some are even rumoured to be able to defy gravity, pass through solid objects, etc. They were just as clumsy as us at one time, but they have improved themselves over millions of years by means of technology, bio engineering, asf.

Are you in fact reptilian?

Walk into any sunglass hut or optical store. Hundreds of shapes and sizes and they all do the same thing. sun protection, vision correction or both. Just because they are alien doesn't mean they don't have individual preferences for styles of eyewear.

So which do you think they would prefer...

Prada or Gucci?

Get a Powerful LED Flashlight and keep it nearby

Sounds like a great idea!

I was thinking about one of those 4200 lumen cree LED torches that can set things on fire once turned on and focused?

Just a little laser surgery, no biggy!

You really think you'll be able to keep some flashlight nearby and that will protect you? Wow that's naive. They can monitor or control your brain waves, they know when you are in the deepest sleep, and if you are conscious they can use telepathy or whatever else to paralyze you. Other than really hardy surveillance or booby traps, with independent power sources, I don't think there's much you can do.
