This has happened before; it will more then likely happen again. Paychecks/payments will be delayed and the only people getting hurt will be the retirees, military and government employees; you can bet the politicians won't be.

What about disabled vets? Will they get cheques?
I don't know what the demographics are for all those who are affected, but does America really want more people thrown out of their houses and living on the streets? Isn't there enough of that at the moment?

The government is all talk and no action over in the USA thats why. If they do shut down it is never as bad as the media implies. I did some research on the history of government threats of shutdown and this is not the first!

The government of the USA is so out of touch with the needs of the people. It isn't funny; while they are fighting over bs we are just trying to survive! Now trump whats to become President well I say we are certianly going downhill. Too bad we rely on so many government programs. I wish there was a way to live without them but that would cause more people to suffer!

I think right now we are just waiting to see what happens. This whole 'do what I want or these people wont get paid' game is weighing on peoples nerves. The fact that our troops over seas will have to still do their jobs while their families have to do with out their paychecks while Mr. President and congress go ahead and issue ones for themselves is like the big red button. Waiting to see if they will really push it or not, almost daring them to. OOOoo boy will horse pucky hit the fan then.

Yes it has happened before, but not when the country was this stressed out, and this ready to bust the chops of our government who cant seem to stop spending. The economy is just starting to show some life, so I hope this does not happen. But hey, if it does, GAME ON.

No, they won't, no government checks will go out. You are correct it's pretty darn wrong on many levels, this happened when I was in the military, my pay was delayed and trust me when I say creditors don't care. If our lovely reps want to do something they might try taking a cut in pay and giving up their all too plush benefit packages and live and retire like the rest of us.

www.bbc.co.uk...

sort of sums it up for the U.K readers of the BBC. Everyone goes home, nobody gets paid until its all over...however they do get back pay for the time off...sounds like a holiday to me, but one where you get your holiday money after your holiday, so you can't go anywhere on holiday, and have extra money (fares to work savings) when you do go back to work.

Seems like a nice plan for everyone concerned to take some time off that they can do nothing with. Hmm, I shall open my pizza place in Liverpool next week and politely take all orders and payments and then tell them there will be a slight delay in delivery, and I know a man who has recently come into some microwave ovens, so all will be well..

Could ATS members please enlighten myself and other non-Americans why there seems to be very little interest in the fact that the USA government, one of the leading players in world affairs, may shut down? In most countries the idea of civil servants not going to work is a little scary, to say the least. All I can find is some idle chit chat about the army not getting paid on time, which is quickly refuted with information that the government is not responsible for that.

If the USA is going isolationist (again) surely they would let us other earthlings know a few days beforehand. I was planning to visit America this summer and visit NYC by taxi, but if there are going to be no traffic wardens around I will hire a car and use the driving skills I learnt in Egypt to deal with malfunctioning traffic lights, etc etc.

Maybe the words 'shut down' are too clear and simple as it may be difficult to decipher a conspiracy in the making! Or maybe it just means government employees are taking a few days off until someone decides who is going to pay them. I'm just curious here and would welcome enlightenment..

WHAT? Really? People from other countries actually care if America goes to hell? Interesting, and here I was thinking the rest of the world was plotting our timely demise. Isolationist? I damn sure wish we went isolationist and not just that, blocked off the damn borders for a while. Let the world rest from American led controversy and Justin Bieber vids.

So yea I mean do I care? Of course, but right now I want my government focusing on my country and not yours or anyone else's for a change. Maybe they need some time off to understand that WE need to get our # together instead of arguing like children and bombing everyone for the damn Sauds.

Thanks for your concern btw.

Other people said it, it's just a game that's played to keep the masses afraid.

-Draft budget
-Disagree
-Let it sit
-Have the media hype it as though America will collapse
-Fly in and save the day at the zero hour
-Said masses praises Washington for bringing us from the brink. Again.

Don't buy into it.

unless you do direct deposit then you will get your check. That is wrong on so many levels. The government is arguing amongst themselves as they are delaying people's pay who is already struggling!
One news source called the USA government the drama queens on the hill.

Wouldnt it make more sense to stop foreign spending, bring the troops home and concentrate on national matters instead of this rediculous concept? It almost sounds like the government is giving up!

Is it time for the people to take over yet? Lets set up a new system, a better system. I guess this system has to crash first before this happens. I wonder what is worse a long slow decline or a fast harsh decline?

************QUESTION************

If the government shuts down and this directly effects the military, would this not be a TAILOR PERFECT moment for an uprising???

I'm actually salivating at the thought of an uprise right when the government is ready takes off on their vacations to turn on the news and see city centers being torn apart and government buildings being ransacked of valuable documents and torching the damn suckers down.

Ok here is how I look at our goverment shutdown.. George Soros has stuck his nose into realigning the Global Economy..So as we all know he funded Obama's Election and that they are very good buddies hints Obama funding 2million dollars to help Soros do offshore drilling with Brazil..Soros now has America at its weakest point so I gurantee you Obama allowed the Goverment shut down somehow to let Soros get his hands on America. So hints New World Order someway or another is going to have an effect on us

It's less of a - shut down - and more of a - slow down -.
Back in 1995 the shut down went very smoothly. In fact when they started it back up to full staff
the question was asked "Why? It appears to be working just fine in slow down mode."
The response was "Well, now that we have it started up again we can serve the public better."
Well, OK.....whatever.

Why would you brake things, thats not going foreword...
I said it before...SQUAT. wait for goverment to shut down and leave. Then you occupie congress and change the lock's on the door and it's back to the poeple... 90% of the law is posession, when as there ever bein an election with 90% of the votes on one side. the peoples side. if you squat congress and their buildings they will have to go to court... then judge as to say that goverment belongs to the people.... squaters are people...???

Its shutting down because they did not have the paper work ready.
They are supposed to do this months in advance, but for some reason
I think the democrats are acting like little spoiled kids and actually did
this out of spite. Their isnt an emergency, its actually the opposite.

They cant make and new laws- GOOD
Everyone gets to see how useless they are - GOOD
No money can be spent - GOOD

IN reality, they dont work most of the time anyhow, so this is pretty much normal for them.
