The only thing wrong with the UN is the fact that they do nothing when it comes to international problems. The UN does nothing and should be disbanded for something different.

Has the U.N. done anything worth while since it began?

The U.N. projects theories of false hope. All of the countries that belong to the U.N. will never be able to get along peacefully, all of the time.

I my opinion, the U.N. is and will always be a waste of resources. The U.S. should remove itself from this organization.

Corruption, this is not new many of the failed programs, ie. welfare, social security, unions were initiated with GOOD honest intentions, and have subsequently been taken control of money grabbing power mongers.

If you take an historical look at the beginnings of each of these and see where they are now you can understand what I mean.

My 2 cents.

Hey, the site has a link to vote for or against the UN for U.S. citizens and it says they will forward the results to our Representatives.

I gave it a try and here's my report:

Unfortunately, they do not ask for any personal information to identify the validity of your vote or who your Representatives are. So I doubt any of our elected officials will take it seriously.

However, FYI, after voting you get the results and 90% of the people who did vote were against. Shame this is not being done more legitimately, it would be so much more effective.

Get America out of the UN and the UN out of America.
I can think of much better stuff to do with that property
in NYC that the UN sits on - at taxpayer expense.

If America and Japan would stop funding the UN, it
would collapse. Kick the UN out and send it to
France. Let them support it.

The UN is worse than useless, it stands in the way
of getting anything good done. Rwanda, Sudan,
Somolia, Iraq. The UN could have and should have
saved millions of lives, but instead the countries at
the UN just did what they needed to do to help
their own countries and self interests.

I can't verify the information but I've heard it said, "That the UN is always headed by a retired Russian general."

No, that is false.
UN was the league of nations and after WWII, more countries joined so it was renamed the "United Nations". Who ever said that, is spreading unproven anti-UN crap.

The U.N. is a collection of dissimilar nations with little in common allegedly trying to go in the same direction. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that can't happen. Indeed, corruption rampant and anti-liberty agendas abounding.

Savoire, I know what you are talking about, but that is not correct. I believe it has something to do with security issues or something. What you are talking about is what helped make a joke out of the Korean and Vietnamese wars.

Bush lately has been calling for an ever-stronger UN, a UN with "spine," a UN with "backbone," a UN determined to avoid the fate of the League of Nations. As we have seen, such a UN would mean world dictatorship. To dramatize his commitment, Bush has put the United States back into UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, which the United States quit many years ago.

UNESCO is an invasion force used to indoctrinate masses of children into accepting NWO and socialist economy. It also tries to promote universal religion based on worshipping Earth or Gaia.

It is no conspiracy theory that UN has publicly promoted socialist policies, you can find it everywhere, here are some excerpts from wikipedia:

At another level, calls for reforming the UN demand to make the UN administration (usually called "the bureaucracy") more transparent, more accountable, and more efficient. In the United States, and particularly in the United States Congress, this is linked to demands that the UN adopt policies which encourage the development of free market economies and cease what are seen as socialist and anti-American policies and actions.

UNESCO has at times been highly controversial. During the 1970s and 1980s, Western countries, especially the United States and the United Kingdom, believed it was being used as a forum for Communist and Third World countries to attack the West.

Connect the dots people, they are already adapting education system to reflect their socialist policies, worshipping of Earth, and embracing immoral sexual behavior. And they are omnipresent, in almost all countries in the world.
Total eradication of judeo-christian culture and nationalism is also necessary to bring forth New World Order.
But don't worry, media propaganda will assure that people are happy to embrace NWO and hand sovereignity of their country to UN...

I am the most Pro American, Conservative man in the country. But...

We can not give up on the U.N.

Conspiracy theories aside it is the best chance for peace through CONVERSATION.

You stop talking you start fighting. In the U.N. they are "theoretically" equal.

The biggest problem at the U.N. is debilitating corruption, and the source of most of this corruption is the fact that the U.N. makes no distinctions between its members that are democracies, dictatorships, and Communist countries...

The U.N. Charter says that its members must work towards freedom and human rights. Since dictatorships and Communist countries obviously do not do this, they violate the U.N. Charter just by being members!

The U.N. should only allow members who are democracies to be members in good standing. Communist countries should be on a probation of some kind as members, and dictatorships should be kicked out of the U.N. altogether until they are no longer dictatorships. The U.N. wants to treat all nations as equals, but they are not all equals. A dictatorship is never equal to a democracy.

To use an analogy, letting a dictatorship sit on a U.N. council (like the Security Council, or Human Rights Council) is like allowing a convicted criminal on a city council. Yes, all people are created equal, but should the voice of a convicted criminal be equal to that of a law-abiding citizen?

Corruption unchecked at that. I had a freind who was an auditor for them. They decided to send her to a South American country to audit the monies that were sent for humanitarian purposes (I think she was their 3rd attempt and they were sending her alone.) We begged he not to go, but hoped for the best. She didn't make it a week. All we heard was that she died in a mysterious car accident. Never saw her again, and you just have to wonder.

Thats what i have never understood about the UN

I feel that the UN needs a big shake up to fit modern times.

the UN could be a force for good, but currently it's not, it's scared of it's own shadow, it lacks real power and international respect
the UN needs to massively reorganise itself (as infinite said) before it can really make a difference

but none the less, the potential for a great international alliance is there

Didn't the US start the UN? Makes sense that they side with the US.

It would make sense if they did side with the US, but I don't see any indication of that. In fact, I don't see them siding with anyone these days. Seems to me they just sit on the fence. They have powers that could be used to further a lot of improvements in the world but opt not to exercise them, unless they are abusing them.

They are a useless institution at his point in time just when the world really needs some action.
