It is difficult to deal with this type of personal testimony. We don’t know who W W McCormick is or was, and there are a lot of McCormicks in Abilene: the best known is perhaps Wayne McCormick, a television newsreader. As for Atlas Mathis, the only trace of anyone by this name is in connection with this story: no records of birth, marriage or death, which is very suspicious. One blogger, White Rabbit (from Missouri, USA), claims to have spoken to a grandson who was raised by Mathis, but claims of this sort are not unusual in the blogosphere and must be treated with scepticism. The story, which was first reported by Brad Steiger in Worlds before Our Own (Putnam, 1978), has every appearance of a hoax. In the age of the internet, where checking the circumstantial details of these stories has become so much easier than it once was, those details, like the alleged Room 24, begin to crumble under a lack of evidence.
Grooved Sphere from South Africa, 2.8 Billion Years Old.
Over the past several decades, South African miners have found hundreds of metallic spheres, at least one of which has three parallel grooves running around its equator. The spheres are of two types -- "one of solid bluish metal with white flecks, and another which is a hollow ball filled with a white spongy center." Roelf Marx, curator of the museum of Klerksdorp, South Africa, where some of the spheres are housed, said: "The spheres are a complete mystery.
They look man-made, yet at the time in Earth's history when they came to rest in this rock no intelligent life existed. The globes are found in pyrophyllite, which is mined near the little town of Ottosdal in the Western Transvaal. This pyrophyllite is a quite soft secondary mineral with a count of only 3 on the Mohs' scale and was formed by sedimentation about 2.8 billion years ago. On the other hand the globes are very hard and cannot be scratched, even by steel." The sphere with the three parallel grooves around it are too perfect to be anything but man made. The Precambrian mineral deposit where the globes are found is dated to be at least 2.8 billion years old. At this time simple microscopic cells were all that was alive on the earth. But this is obviously not true. Who created or left behind these magnificent spheres. Obviously man made, and stronger than steel, what was their purpose for the people who visited and left them behind in time?

Really? I didn't know we had developed carbon dating back in 1928... Carbon dating is quite foolproof if done correctly so I really fail to see how it's unreliable.
Also to the OP: you got this article off a blog whos author claims that "historians would agree that human civili[z]ation began sometime in the 1850's" hinting to the fact that either A) Humans hadn't organized socially before that, B) no human culture had developed science, mathematics, organized religion, music etc. and C) ancient artifacts and sites around the world hinting at civilization were in fact not created by human civilization. The author of the blog post that this op is based on is a moron...clear an simple.

How old the human race really is?, My thoughts.
I find it ironic that some cant grasp the idea of the earth or the human race being older than they have been origionally taught. Or the possibility that there could have been another race here before us. After all, we have "written testiomony" of ancient egypt, but we can still not find definite proof of how even the pyramids were constructed, nor by whom.

"Is humanity older then told and if so why only 200,000 years or so? "
Humans older then this.. probably not.. however other beings living on Earth/Eridu.. more then likely!

Humans are just one small speck on the time line of forever.
OCC is in consultation with OGS to review existing blueprint maps and previous studies of coal mining in Tulsa County in an effort to better determine the areas that have been mined by underground methods. While maps exist for many of the underground mines in Tulsa County, it is not a complete set. Examination of these maps indicates that there are other areas known to have been mined but for which maps are not available. The available mine maps may lack data such as depth (from surface to mine rooms) and room height (from floor to mine roof). There is also the challenge of correlating the old maps to features on the surface. OCC is in the process of electronically scanning the old mine maps that are available and then overlaying the maps on aerial photographs of the surface. This has been accomplished for an area around the Tulsa Fairgrounds but remains incomplete for most of Tulsa County. The project is being undertaken to provide a resource to OCC mine reclamation staff who are charged with investigating subsidence incidents due to underground mines in Tulsa County and in other areas of the state.

theres an old saying in texas.."never let the truth get in the way of a good story"..ive heard a number of stories about fascinating finds in coal mines ..they always seem to be hushed up ..and never have any actual facts to go on..now either the government are very good at been every where at once to hide these things from the public ...or ...its a very good story to make money in a time when it was very hard to come by...my moneys on the latter
We just can't form any valid opinion at all with nothing but one mans words.
