Having watched that video and what was stated by Rep. Graham, there are a few things that can be stated:
As much as it is a shame to burn any book, as there is so much ignorance in the world, it only adds to it, it can also be stated, and I would like to
use a quote from Babylon 5: Never hand a person a loaded gun, unless you know where they are going to point it.
In the Constitution of the United States of America, the First Amendment states the following:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or
of the press; or of the right of the people to peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Now the Rep stated that we are in a war, however, according to the records and all research that is a lie, as no war was declared by Congress before
we went into Afghanistan. Yes it is an armed conflict, however it is not a war, and there for any and all power that the US would have and the
military is severely limited. Congress has had ample opportunity to declare war, enact it and vote on such and thus has not. If we are at war, then
we should by all means, if it is going to offend the enemy, offend them. The reality is that the people who are engaged in open conflict are radical
Islamist, and if it upsets them, good, let them be upset. While destruction of any holy text is a shame, nothing is forever, books will degrade, and
turn to dust over time, they can be reprinted. The Rep Graham and the person in the video also are mistaken, the curtailing of the freedom of speech
has happened several times in the USA, and especially during WWII. That speech was curtailed, not only not to give comfort to those we were fighting
against, but also it was to prevent them from knowing what we were up to and where our military forces were at, the best case is the saying: Loose
lips sinks ships. The US had endured a sneak attack and were loosing ships in the Atlantic to the sub wolf packs.
Now onto the weapon part that was mentioned before.
The curtailing of the freedom of Speech is a dangerous thing and it opens a door that should never be opened. The founding fathers nailed it shut for
a reason, knowing full well, that to open it just a crack can lead to abuses by the government towards the people and is the start of tyranny. If
they go through with curtailing one freedom of speech, then that can be used to go even further to curtail the press and the acts of speech. Venues
like ATS would be in danger of being shut down, along with any venue, as someone is going to get offended by anything in the world. That is a truth
and a fact, and we can not allow the discontentment of a few to affect the whole, nor should the congress be allowed to get away with such, for if
they do, then it will be like a dominos standing up, one push and the entire thing will come crashing down.
I do applaud the person making the video for not only standing up to the Rep Graham, but also for putting her own life in danger, as there will be
those extremist Islamic persons who will demand her death.
