The tokyo Electric Power company, which controlls the nuclear plant at Fukushima, plans to release 15.000 tones of radioactive waste intoo the sea. as thay have no place too store the radioactive water 100 times higher then the permited ammount!!!

I personaly do NOT bealive the Tokyo Power Company, so I think when thay say 100 times, its actualy 1000 times.
Just a thought.

Scary stuff! Three eyed fish & super-lobsters, oh noes.
Surely there was a better alternative than letting all of that water just flow into the ocean, the carelessness of certain nations around the world continues to astound me.

*note to self do not eat fish from japan in the future*, hope my local sushi place uses local products, curious if it'll have the same effect as it did on The Simpsons three eyed fish and whatnot.
Its a scary thought, imagine if it does mutate a species of fish imagine whales mutating to become aggressive and attacking things, or killer dolphins anything possible

A Radioactive cloud will probably circle the earth in a week or so, but in the sea...

In your back yard in 2 days...

Is this the beginning of the nuclear apocalyptic future so many have feared?

This is a no win situation; however, the waste has to go somewhere and right now the ocean is the best place. Any other stance is naive in the least. It WILL dilute and the water will help limit the radioactive decay. Its not pretty but there it is. What would you have them do?

i think people like to forget how much radioactivity already has been released in the pacific ocean, think bikini atoll.

As part of the Pacific Proving Grounds it was the site of more than 20 nuclear weapons tests between 1946 and 1958.

lets see... 15.000 tonnes of water = 30,000,000 pounds

water weighs 8.3 lbs per gallon, ergo they will be pumping out 3,614,457 gallons of radiation water

idea:
pump it into those leakproof drums (that are designed to last 50 years)
and send them down into the abyss...i.e. the 7 mile deep trench (Marianis Trench) on the ocean floor
where the cold and deficiency of oxygen or light will keep them intact for a longer time

all these contingincies were supposed to have been planned for,
even a black-swan event like a tsunami...
after all, the nuke plants were on the seaside...Duh !

Nice idea accept they would inplode because of the water pressure thats if they would sink at all.

May be. When japan released the massage to all citizens of planet earth( sorry theirs no link as im new to comunicating on web) I was Extremely sadened and thought how beautifull and clever the message was. Now i feel cheated. This is why so called paronia sets in. Because there is good reason to be.

Agreed. But they should bury those leakproof drums on their own land, not into the open ocean that will affect everyone on earth. That part of Fukushima will not be habitable anyway, so why not use that 20km land as the graveyard for all the radioactive garbage.

correction:
a lbs.of seawater weighs approximatively 7.5 lbs per gallon,

wiki.answers.com...

the entire pacific ocean is 187,189,915,062,857,142,857 gallons

It's a fair point you make about how we have abused our Oeans in the past........:-(

Those images from the clip are really quite scary BUT when you look at the ships being 'bombed' then actually a nuclear device at sea doesn't really look that effective if you know what I mean......... A more precise missile strike would be far much more effective than a random 'big bomb' in the ocean......

Back to the point - maybe the Japanese power company is intend on creating a real life Godzilla so they can then market it and make up some of their lost revenues !!!???

I do think though, however small or LARGE the dumping back into the sea is..... sooner or later we will REAP what we have SOWN....

Regards

I thought most would have heard about this by now, but the leftover radiation from nuke tests is less than the radiation given off by broken nuke plants. A big bomb doesn't mean a large amount of leftover radiation.

this may bring many personal attacks on me, but i am thinking out loud that maybe a new nuclear detonation on japan at the fukushima complex would vaporize our problems, then we would only need to deal with lower levels of fallout. after the area has been completely evacuated beforehand for like a hundred mile radius, then quarantine the area for the specified time period for the radiation effects to wear off.

Drink it in their cups of tea and they can help the process by using their bodies as filters.

And how much radioactivity was released into the worlds air currents after this bomb. I also wonder what the number of cases of cancer per thousand people was before we started detonating and using nuclear technology and the number after.

The hard truth is this is not going to stop until we stop it. There is only one way to close this down, that is a small well designed atomic bomb that will consume fuel rods, reactors and the irradiated soil and create a crater that will fill with sea water.

Think of it as a limb with gangrene that has to be removed and cauterized before the entire body sickens and dies. We need to face that realization and implement it as soon as possible.

This is no longer a company problem or even a Japanese problem, it is the problem of every living organism on the planet.
