Good Afternoon ATS from England.I have an anecdote for you glance upon.

Hello, as the subtitle suggests this is another introductory thread.Now you may think that this is contrived unoriginal dribble that is lacking in any content and you are right it is...but before you leave this page in search of something more mentally stimulating, read this story from personal experience for you to "glance upon" as I mentioned in the title:

Just for reference:O2 is my broadband provider.

Friday 1st of April 2011:
I was surfing on the internet(or more specifically YouTube and ATS) at 4:37pm,I clicked on a link on YouTube and showed error 188(from what I can recollect anyway) the same situation also occured on ATS,Google or any other website. I later received a message from my broadband provider via text message stating that was problems with the internet in my area they said that they fix the fault and text back to say if it was repaired or not. At about 9:00-11:00pm the internet seemed to working but no message to confirm it.

Do you think it was a April fools prank or a excuse to obstruct me from the internet or did they just forget.
So ATS community what do you think?

Hmm do you usually get texts to tell you about broadband problems? I'm on virgin media and I wish they would do that, I have to phone them

I'm not sure but I don't think 188 is even a valid error code client errors are from 400-499 and server errors from 500-599

That's probably it, my memory's terrible.

You could have been DDOS'd if someone has your IP. Was the number that texted you definitely from your internet provider? What DDOSing is, is if someone has your IP address, they can send large packets of bytes of data, using large botnets, and shut your internet down. It is possible to even have your router fried, ( literally ) It's happened before.
