I cut through this retail shop today on my way back to the office from lunch and noticed these cracks and unexplained damage done to the parking lot.
Mind you these were not here yesterday and there were not any heavy containers or objects placed in these areas overnight. As you can see most damage
is over parking spots or inside them.
Im not claiming anything on this but just wanna know if anyone has a normal explanation or if this is something that needs to be looked into further.
The second picture looks like a wheel mark from a mobile crane, but as for the rest, I dunno, had a lot of rain there? Maybe it loosened up the Tarmac
where it was already cracked?
Underground water softening the ground underneath the ashphalt causes this. Any reasonable weight (a car or a person walking) causes cracks & then
displacement of the broken ashphalt.
Sometimes after heavy rainfall, our roads here in Cali do the same thing, especially on highways. Is this just happening in the parking lot? How do
the roads and other nearby streets look?
Looks like water damage. It was not caused by a weight from above. Did the area recently have a lot of rain because it appears to be where you have a
high water table that lifted. Check the parking lot where there is concrete slab rather than asphalt, if the concrete is damaged (looks pock marked)
then it is definately water damage from below.
Water damage due to upward seepage is what it looks like.
Storm drain breakage or blockage or just fluctuations in the water table could do this. Did it rain hard recently? Did the temperature warm up
recently?
I've got to side with AnimositisominA on this one - one of our parking lots here at work (added on after the fact) has the same kind of damage.
It's the terrain & surfacing.
I'd have to assume you've just never noticed before, otherwise have no idea what could have caused apparent aged wear of the same sort overnight.
This parking lot has been poorly maintained and not sealed.
Happens all the time, especially were there has been alot of freezing and thawing.
Here we get huge potholes towards the end of winter.
