We had to have our dog Tootie who was a 17-18 years old Yorkie put to sleep yesterday. She had breast cancer. Honestly I am still crying as I type this. My other half has done pretty good. I am the one that is taking it hard. She was my in-laws dog and when they passed away in 2004 we took her in.

We took her to the vet in a very soft robe for her to lay on and then we took her down to the local Rest Haven Pet Cemetery to have her cremated. We took a hair clipping and I bought some of this stuff called bake clay. I molded it round and put the date at the top, name at the bottom and her paw print in the middle. I had the vet get the paw print because I could not do it. Then you bake it and the clay gets hard. We did the same for our beloved Max that passed away in 2007. We will get her remains back Thursday.

I just can't quit crying. I guess it times like these that make you wonder about life. I want to believe that I will see her again but then the bad side of my mind is saying no you won't because dogs don't have souls. I am trying not to think about it. I just don't want to go to heaven if my pets aren't there with my loved ones.

I have to go for now. I will try and check back in on this thread. Not even sure why I started it. I guess just to help think out loud and let the friends that I have made here know. I have to go to work at 2pm and don't even want to go. My eyes are red and puffy and I can't quit crying.

Well why would you feel sad about something that apparently has no soul? It'd be like me crying over this bottle i have with me right now that I drink out of quite often.

I know you don't believe that..

That is sad. I hope you get over your loss. My dog is about 5 and id be crushed if/when he dies. Dogs are more loyal than any human you will find. I know nothing will replace yours but maybe a new dog, even the same breed may help you out a little. Be well.

Ah, honey, I'm so sorry! I know how much you love her and I can't imagine the pain your feeling now... Be kind to yourself and write whenever you want. I'm here. You can go to the dog board I told you about. There are many kind-hearted people there who have experienced what you have gone through and they will welcome you with open arms. Take care!

So sad

Dogs do have souls.

You gave her a good home, a happy life and loved her, you did right by her.

I have lost a few very much loved dogs over the years, and at the time I never thought I would recover from the grief, it was too much to bear and I thought I would die from the pain of it.

But I always got another puppy to love and give a home to soon after
A new puppy in my home always worked wonders for me when I was grieving for my lost dogs.

I hope you feel better soon, my friend.

U2U me if you need to pour out, I always have time for a fellow animal lover.

SavannahJane I'm so sorry for your pain. There is a special love and bond between people and their pets. Our four legged friends have so many wonderful qualities that endear them to us. I would be crushed at such a loss, too.

Not everyone feels animals have no soul. I think this is a personal matter. I find comfort in thinking those that left before me await me on another plane. There are many unanswered questions in our journey but the time will come when all will be revealed.

You go ahead and cry all you want. There is nothing wrong with mourning the loss of a loved one. Some people don't appreciate other peoples feelings but they are entitled to their opinion.

Pain and tears are part of life. The terrible times help us to appreciate the good days. Over time, the pain of your loss will subside. And when the pain stops you will be left with many happy, warm memories of a loved one that brought you many smiles and much happiness.

Hang in there, sweetie.

I remember that I found 2 of my dogs teared to shreds near forest.
Just saying - my dogs are not part of my family.
They live their own lives - mostly. We just feed them - and sometimes I run with them and spend little time together.

It certainly does hurt losing a pet as they really do become another member of the family - and you're always going to miss them as if they are one too. Just remember though that you're not alone in how you're feeling right now. Most, if not all of us, have have gone through this at some point in our lives and It's never easy. Just try to hang in there yeah?

Oh, and please don't forget that anyone of us here are just a PM away.

Oh I am so sorry for your loss. It is sad indeed.

I had two rott's that I buried a couple of years ago.

One came down with bone cancer in the front right shoulder. It was bad and I could see her suffering. She was on some pain meds but I could not stand to see her like that weeping eyes. I brough her in and held her head next to mine and wispered in her ear. I love u baby and strocked here bridge of her nose and she just put her head down on her blanket and went to sleep. The vet walked out and I sobbed uncontrollably for about 5 minutes. I wrapped her up in her blanket which she loved. I brought her home and dug a huge hole by a enormus rock and buried her there.

It was so sad. I still had her mate my boy. He was a year older than she was. About 2 years on he fell ill with cancer as well and his was fast also. Sever swelling and pain and discomfort. I sat with him all day in the sun in the yard crying knowing I was bringing him to the same fate as his love. It was killing me and he didn't even have a clue. Just layed there licking up my tears. Kissing me like the big 130 pound baby that he was. I brough him in at the end of the day and it was the same hard thing. Sat there and rubbed his ears and watched as the lights went out and I wispered in his ear. I love you boy. And the vet walked out and gave us a few minutes. And of course I was sobbing uncontrollably again. I brought him home in his blanket and burried him on the other side of the rock right next to his love.

Its extremely hard when you take care of such a loyal loving companion for so many years. It breaks your heart.

But I can offer one glimpse of hope. There are so many love bugs out there who are just as willing to show you there love and companionship.

I got another boy Mr black is his name and I have to say it was the best thing I ever did. He brings so much life to my heart I cannot even begine to desribe. Then I got him a companion also so when I'm away.

So remember your baby suffers no more and is at peace. I would recomend getting another dog asap. It will never replace your baby but a new baby will bring your spirits up. Just don't get a look a like because it wont be the same and you may have a not as good experience. Similar breed yes. But don't get one which looks the same way as it may make it difficult to get over.

Good luck and like I said I am very sorry for your loss.

Reading your story brought me to tears - took me back to when I lost my boys, all the sadness came back

I agree though, a new puppy to love is the way forward.

My 11 stone boy is my little darlin and he knows it

There seems to be a question about whether animals have souls or spirits. Sometimes I wonder if some people do as well.

Very sorry for your loss. While I do not have any pets myself I have learned from friends over the years that pets really become part of the family.

Yes I agree totally. My boy that I got after they passed was the best thing I ever did. I miss them dearly yes and sometimes set up my chair at the rock and have a cocktail (captain and coke) in rememberance. Kind of ashamed of myself because I had written something beautiful which would most definitly bring a tear to your eye which I wanted to put on the rock. But I hold that dear to my heart and don't want any trolls reading it as they are not worthy.I planned on making a nice plaque to secure to the massive rock. Just afraid that if I put a plaque there and something happens I move or die whatever that someday some kids may come across and dig them up. I guess I would not like anyone to know they are there accept me and my family. They all know how dear they were and how much love they gave to me and my family. I would sit at the window without fear and watch my little girl 3 year old play with them and she would have them on there backs rubbing their belly kissing them on the noses and where ever she went they were glued to her like a shield. And let me tell you they would not leave her side..Sometimes people forget what that means. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

Those two were hands down the best dogs that I had ever had. I 100% trusted them with my family especially with my children baby at the time and all. You should have seen how they would sit next to my wife when she was breat feeding at night. My wife felt guarded and extremly secured. She the female was my first truely first exclusive to just me as my own dog. Bought her at 6 weeks and picked her up at 8 weeks and had her under my arm and on my lap 24-7.

This dog had an unbelievable drive to please me. Happy always happy and at my side no matter what. I took her through basic all the way up to offleash training. She was all that...

When I was typing my first response I was getting all choked up.

You see we move on in life but our heart and love is strong and never changes. It is as strong as the day I layed her to rest.

We just don't see them but we know they are in our hearts. They are there and no one will ever take that away. No troll no one.

I will take that to the grave.

Now my new guys are great and would jump at the chance to please me. I should not call them new as I have had them for several years now.

Very obedient very alert and very responsive to commands. Differnt breed though from the Rott's. I will always love the rotti as a breed but switched off because an opportunitiy came across and I jumped at the chance when I saw Mr Black as he is incredible to say the least.

Take care.

I

Just my own opinion but, IF people have some kind of spirits, then i think animals, plants... anything alive also must.

So, i figure our pets who are now gone, are back where they came from. Back home. I think they are probably doing just fine. Maybe waiting for us to come back home from our little short trip to living land.
