Hello Peeps

Ok firstly this is not a post about religon, calling anybody a fraud or laughing at people who believe in the spirit world and the after life.

i have always been interested in anything paranormal i think anything to do with the unkown creates an excitement due to the endless possibilities. i think thats why most of us are on this site.

Ok so i firmly believe we only use a small percentage of our brain and i also believe most of our brains power is shut down from an early age due to constant information from our parents and the media. Because certain sections of our brains are closed our view regarding certain things are narrowed. Now say im 4 years old and its december, i believe on the 25th of this month a bearded man who rides a sleigh which is pulled by flying reindeer is going to come to my house, come inside and leave me presents because i have been a good boy.
I believe this to be the truth 100% and my belief is encouraged by my parents constantly backing up my belief by saying that "if your a bad boy Santa wont come". My school teachers back up my belief by making me sing songs about santa and draw pictures of him etc.

Now i hope i dont spoil things for people but we all know santa is a tail taken from a legend of saint Nicholas, and now he does not come and leave me presents its my mum and dad.

So lets take a different scenario. I am again 4 years old and this time i believe there is the boogeyman in my closet. At night i hear noises and see shadows and often cry out for my parents to come and comfort me. Now in this instance i am constantly told that "there is no such thing as monsters", again this is backed up by my teachers and the media and eventually like Santa i stop believing in "monsters".

Now lets say that as a 4 year old i had a spirit attached to me which some people believe can happen as a childs ind is more open. Because i am conditioned not to believe in what my senses tell me i close the section of my brain that connects me to the spirit world.

Ok a little personal section. I believe in ghosts, spirits, poltergiest and even demons. I dont claim to know what they are or where they come from. through my teen years i believed i could walk into a house and instantly tell if there was something wrong in a paranormal sense. Why i thought i could do this i still did not know but often i was right and the owners (usually friends) would again back my belief in my powers of perception by telling me tales of weird happenings in the property or ill feelings in certain parts of the house.

Now this went of for many years until one day i actually stopped and looked at the things i had said regarding the paranormal or even predicted and i came to the conclusion that i was actually bending the evidence to actually fit my hypothesis. Since i came to that conclusion i have had no further paranormal events, never seen anything and have never been in a property that felt bad or wrong, now they just feel like ....well a property.

So my question is this do the people who believe they can contact spirits or even channel them to predict future events actually do as they claim, or have they been assured so much they have this ability that there brain actually iterprets evidence in a way to fit there hypothesis like mine did?

I cant find the video but Derren Brown did a really good show on this and pretty much proved ouija boards are false and its your brain which moves the pointer sub consiously. Again im not saying that it is but its worth a watch.

I know certain people on ATS believe they have a third eye so to speak and would love to here there thoughts on this and how they actually gained there talents.

All the best

Helgas

Yes, I know all about those ATS members who claim they have the third eye......

Do you in all honesty believe it?

I don't

It's not all that difficult to separate fact from fiction on this board, and believe you me I've read some real doozies!

Not without saying, there are also some brillant minds on ATS as well as just normal average well balanced happy go lucky people.

Very interesting post, however im slightly confused by when you said you could feel the presense of spirits in a house and then realised that you were bending the evidence to fit your hypothisis, are you saying that you suddenly decided not to believe that you could feel these presences and they went away? Im not trying to be clever i cant even spell hypothisis, but i just cant believe it can be that easy. I am one of those people who feels presenses in places, i leave suddenly because i cant stand it and then i wont return to the place, because its so overpowering,

I guess you don't believe which I would also guess nothing paranormal has ever happened to you. So I would say that part of your brain is shut and very hard to open as you would dismiss everything that is put front of you. I'm not saying your wrong by the way just a different take on why you don't believe.

It's hard to describe how it happened but all the things I was being told to back up my ideas could be dismissed to easy by more conventional reasons. I think the tipping point for me was as follows.
My friend claimed to have a ghost and I believed it to be true because of what I felt in the house. They claimed the kitchen light constantly flickered and went off on its own. Now one night I was in said kitchen and the light began to flicker and then went off. I noticed a loud rumbling from outside as this happened and later on the same thing happened.

We sat in the living room and I could see the kitchen and the light was on. Next thing flickering and it went off but this time I looked out the front window to see a large 40ft wagon drive by at the same point. I took a screwdriver and removed the light cover to expose a loose wire which was only being effected by large wagons passing the house.

This is when I looked at things from a more critical viewpoint.

When it comes to the paranormal I keep a reasonably open mind....

whether or not I regard as nonsence depends on what is put in front of me; I'm not gulliable

I know some people like to feel important and seek attention (rolls my eyes)

I agree I know the feeling myself and its addictive. I think everyone wants to be different and stand out from the crowd.

very interesting thread and well put. I have almost come to the conclusion that I hope there is no such thing as spirits and demons or even heaven and hell because its just to darn depressing to think about. When I think that I will just sleep when I die it makes me happy lol, and its good to know I can listen to metal and not become possessed.

Find it interesting how people who claim to have these powers of deception have stayed well clear of this thread lol

Maybe people dont want to share their gift with closed minded people like most of you and your fellow none believers on this thread.
Maybe people that have a gift are repulsed by people like yourself.

Open your mind friend, and just maybe someone might open theirs to you.

Peace,
Meathed

Read the quote i quoted off you.
I Didn't miss read.
In that little sentence you said a thousand word, and none of them were good.

Maybe if you dont insult the people you are trying to talk to they may talk. But after you wrote what you wrote, i doubt anyone would want to tell you anything, including your house is burning down and you should get out.

So from your perspective because I'm asking a few questions then I'm the closed minded one who is just insulting these people who have or claim to have supernatural powers?

Can you not see the irony in your own posts?

Do you think you have paranormal abilities? Maybe you could help contribute to the REAL reason for the thread.
It's far easier to stay silent than to answers some questions that could change your belief or opinion.
