I am in Fiji, and I like to keep an eye on earthquakes and stuff, these are not very big and I really hope nothing comes of this, but it needs posting.
Over the past 7 days we have had 10 earthquakes according to USGS.

4.3 2011/03/29 06:48:17 -17.491 -178.711 554.8 FIJI REGION

5.1 2011/03/23 14:14:40 -20.823 -178.731 576.5 FIJI REGION

While in the 8 to 30 days list there are only 7

2011/03/20 19:46:56 25.09S 179.54E 513 5.0 SOUTH OF THE FIJI ISLANDS
2011/03/20 17:57:52 18.12S 178.46W 603 4.4 FIJI REGION
2011/03/16 14:01:57 18.87S 177.71W 622 4.6 FIJI REGION
2011/03/16 00:10:09 21.21S 176.70W 268 5.1 FIJI REGION
2011/03/14 02:11:12 17.71S 178.72W 582 4.6 FIJI REGION
2011/03/12 08:38:38 20.30S 176.21W 215 4.9 FIJI REGION
2011/03/04 20:33:14 23.54S 179.83W 563 4.7 SOUTH OF THE FIJI ISLANDS

Actually, you are counting two earthquakes as members of both lists - so your numbers should be 10 in the last 7 days and only 7 in the previous 21 days.

Also, it's not unusual for earth quakes to cluster like that along major faults and it's hard to know (I am certainly no geologist) if it means all that much.

Sorry did not notice that when copying/pasting from USGS, corrected thanks to you.

I don't know myself if it means anything, its probably nothing, but warranted posting.

USGS has this nifty little section in the 'maps' tab of whatever EQ you're looking at called HISTORIC SEISMICITY Here's a map of directly over Fiji
and here's a few south:
Just south of Fiji Islands

Before starting threads like this, may I suggest you post in Quake Watch, it's an annual thread that our resident Earthquake geeks (I use the term lovingly!) discuss pretty much every single significant quake, so they would be able to answer any questions/fears you may have, they aren't seismologists, but they study and monitor GEE & USGS daily, so chances are that someone will always be on the forum to answer your query within a couple of hours tops. But basically, it's nothing to worry about as Fiji is a really active place on the 'ring of fire'
