New Memeber looking for adoption

I have been a longtime reader of ATS and have just now decided to make username and actually participate in discussions on this website. I am on this site pretty much all day m-f 8-5 as I am a technology professional and sit in front of a PC all day. If anyone is willing to show me the ropes and bring me up through the ranks that would be great. I often have some interesting dreams / views / and weird expericnes in my life that I would love to share in some threads on this website. Let me know if anyone is interested in helping a loyal ATS'er

How do I change my avatar?

On the blue bar across the top, under Tools, you'll see a pictures link. That will take you to the place where you store your pictures and videos. That blue bar is what you will use to navigate the site. When you post in a thread, it will show up on the right-hand side of your MyATS. That is how I keep track of the threads I've posted in. I also frequently use Recent Posts to see the popular threads.

Here, we have avatars, which can be 170x240 pixels AND we also have background images, which can be 200x700 max. (mine is 180x488). The idea is that you can have an avatar with a nice background (like Tech Vampire's), or you can have a clear avatar and use your background as your avatar, which is what I have done.

You have to upload your avatar and/or background to the media site and then link to it in your profile. Your profile has spaces for both your avatar and your background image. You don't have to have a background image, it can just be a solid color or none at all.

Avatar Rules

On your MyATS page, the left hand side can be configured to give you a choice as to what you see there. Under "Favorite Forums", click on the different sorting options (blue line of text) to see what you want displayed. If you prefer one of those options, make it your default and every time you open MyATS, it will be sorted that way. I like to have mine on "new topics", that way I can see the new threads in my favorite forums.

To get your favorite forums to show up in there, go to the forum and subscribe. You can also subscribe to threads At the top left of the thread) and they will show up on the right side. If you post in a thread, it will automatically show up on the right.

I love how informative everyone is, If only my co-workers were as good, my life would be much easier. Thanks everyone, really excited to actually be a member now. Never thought it was this cool. =)

I'll keep this thread in MyATS for a while so I can see new responses to it. If you have any questions, you can ask here and one of us will get on it.

Here's the ropes as I know them for starting a thread:

1) Make a statement of sad-but-true fact.

2) Back up your statement with several solid links.

3) Formulate a hypothesis as to why/how it could be a conspiracy.

4) Then sit back and watch the naysayers claim it to be nobody's fault and resultant of interacting social forces.

5) Come to terms with the fact that you'll never know more than half of the truth and you should spend at least half as much time with your real family as you do with your ATS family.

Hey TechVampire, Tried to message you back, but havent hit the infamous 20 posts yet. No I havent figured out the avatar yet, but I also havent had much time to try and figure it out. Does the image need to be hosted somewhere first?
