No it is not as the era of oil dependence is over.

What planet are you living on?

The vast majority of oil is consumed by industrial/commercial processes and logistics. When there's a suitable energy alternative for those users, your statement will apply.

The Chevy Volt represents nothing more than govt. waste and more govt. fraud. Our govt., which essentially owns GM, is offering a $7500 dollar tax credit to those who purchase this POS. That brings the starting price down to about $33-34,000. Why not just drop the damned sticker price?? This is like buying a mattress "on sale" and thinking that you are getting a deal. (Aren't mattresses always "ON SALE" somewhere?)

This tax credit is all about GM and NOT the consumer. GM gets to inflate their sales figures by listing the full retail sales price of about $41,000 not $33,000 after tax credit price. THe $7500 tax credit will then be penned in on the PROFIT column. Then of course our government ends up eating the $7500 tax credit by increasing our nations debt.

What a scam!!!!! Creative accounting paid for by you and me!!! Buy the Nissan Leaf and save yourself the headache down the road if you really want electric.

why do you think that ? yeah, explain please ....
the Toyota Prius was and still is ( ? ) a big succes, but the Volt / Ampera is another kind of car !! FULL electric, with a engine to refuel the batteries ... ok price is maybe high ( plus I wonder you have to pay for a charge station ???..... you cannot put it on your home electricity ??? that is not what I heard in Brussels you know, nobody did speak about a charge station you have to buy with the car !!
).
So why do you think it will be a flop ? other cars are going to come out full electric, I really think we just are at the beginning of the story !

in fact I want to hear more about the batteries ... somebody knows the difference between the Li-ion and others ?
could they go for 8 years ? As I said before my portable battery just got 3 years and now is at 30 % so what ...??
look at this electric car coming from England :
green.autoblog.com...
isn't that fantastic ???? come on, carporn at its best !!!

New plants that are now coming online are all green. There is quite a few lubricant companies working on petrol free lubes. Every application where oil is currently employed is being phased to go green. Give it time, it is happeneing, the electric/green car movement is the first strikes against oil.

The installation company needs to run a line from the power lines outside to connect the charger into the grid. Like how when you get landline cable installed, they have to run a line in from the pole outside, same applies to that. The cost for the line, running it and installation is covered in the cost of it.

That's the Catch-22 with hybrid/electric vehicles. They cost too much to ever make a real difference.

I sell used vehicles for a living. Even a well-used Prius is not affordable to the majority of consumers. Additionally, it's a niche vehicle that is low on power, doesn't offer much interior space, and "looks goofy" to most people. Then, take into account the potential buyer's concern about increased repair costs of a hybrid and the decision is made even more difficult.

The other hybrids on the market are even worse. The hybrid Camry costs substantially more than the 4-cylinder gasoline model yet only offers a 3-4mpg increase in fuel efficiency. Add in the reduced power, loss of trunk space, and the worries about repair costs and it becomes a poor financial choice.

Obviously, I'm not saying that reducing emissions and fuel consumption is a bad idea, I'm saying that hybrid/electric vehicles have a LONG way to go before they'll make an impact. I fear that we'll be in a major oil crisis before the solution is found.

Should have took that money and invested in horses because what comes out the back end of them is what the volt smells like.

You can keep your volt I payed to R&D..

I'd rather be driving my '70 corvette stingray....

Even @ 20 bucks a gallon there is nothing like a V-8....

Define "big success"...

Compare the worldwide sales numbers of the Prius to the number of Camrys sold in the US alone. In fact, I already did the homework, so here:

Worldwide sales of the Prius in 2008: 285,000. Prius 2009 worldwide: 404,000
Camry US sales in 2008: 436,000 Camry US in 2009: 356,824

yes but you know : we have to start somewhere !!! the production of those cars has really to start first because if nobody does buy those cars, well then the story stops in fact .....
so, government has to push the buying, once the production is becoming "normal" well prices will be more acceptable for the Joe Sixpack family ....
we must be happy in some way that governments are pushing the evolution and the production of those electric cars, otherwise some people will cry again and say : look they kill the electric car once more !!!

I mean : for a really new kind of car, a hybrid one, the selling is very good I find for a beginning !
mentality changes, that is the important thing ! I do not say it is fantastic, but nevertheless it is POSITIV !

OK, If you wanna believe that go right ahead, where does electricity come from by the way? Do you think it all comes from wind? all this stuff is going flop, because nobody is going to pay more for this stupid crap.
yea I can get electric from Wind, but I'd have to pay twice as much to get it... all the green people can live in their fantasy worlds, about how the volt is going to free us of oil dependence... and just so you know, most of these Hybrids and Electric cars, are complete death traps, and believe me I should know....... not to mention people look so stupid driving them.

yes of course you need electric power, but that is produced by power stations that have the possibility to make the energy (electricity ) on a much cleaner way than your petrol car produces energy ......
I even do not speak about atomic energy, because .... but when you put special filters on coal production units then you have cleaner way to produce energy than your car does !! more efficient and more control in production.

More then 5 Million units sold since the Prius debuted in 1999. How is that not a success? About 1500 Volts have been sold since October and like 15,000 Tesla Roadsters have sold in 3 yrs. Fisker already has like 1,000 deposits currently for it's Karma. How are hybrids a failure? Porsche has greenlighted it's electric 918 Spyder.

How is nearly 7 Million hybrids on the roads in America today a failure in only less then 10 yrs?

Wind, hydra and solar will power the future.

Either we get off of oil or else face an armed nuclear conflict. That is what we are facing, that will be the end result if we continue down this path.

A Chevrolet Tahoe employs a Multi Displacement System whereas it uses only a 250 hp 4 Cylinder to save gas.

Did I use the word "failure"?

There's a whole lot of gray area between "big success" and "failure" in the automotive industry.

I've found that most Prius owners have more than one vehicle. Just because they're on the roads doesn't mean they're replacing other vehicles... more like a supplement for the sake of image or personal guilt. When people start trading in their primary vehicles for Prii, I'll consider them a big success.
