about 500 people went mad, the other 999,9500 protested peacefully, families and TV presenters turned up, they were all safe. I was there myself and it ended in Hyde park in front of opposition government condemning the cuts that are being made because of their wild spending, I'm amazed how peaceful if went, the whole population are not behaving like animals. I think 23 arrests so far
That's completely wrong!
First of all you speak of it in past tense when the protest is still very much alive, check out the news lol.
Over 200 have been arrested and rising on petty charges like breach of the peace and tresspass, and estimates are there are a few thousand actively protesting right now so it's a lot more then 500 people

my mistake DRUGE REPORT said 500 thousand people. I wouldn't have posted it if I didn't think it was right. How do you change it? The pictures certainly looked like a war zone

Did any of you read the article? It does say 500 thousand protesters now i'm not there in England to verify it but the pictures looked pretty Bad. Calling me an alarmist is pretty ironic I hate people like that. I will happily delete the thread if I knew how. I was very surprised when I saw it.

The present Anarchist movement in the UK pretty much started in the late 70's and really took off in the 80's due to the Anarcho-Punk movement with bands like CRASS, Conflict, Flux of Pink Indian, Dirt, Chumbawamba etc.
It was a very nonviolent movement, we tried to change things peacefully, using non-violent civil disobedience.
The state increased its violence against us.
Protests like 'Stop the City' in London 82 and 83 were peaceful other than the police who kept trying to incite violence from the people.
Then they did this..
These hit squads of police had, you know, steamed in from out the junctions, blocked the road, and busily started setting about people and their homes, you know, smashing in their windows and knocking people about like they do.
www.urban75.com...
The police got increasingly violent against us, the people got tired of it because nothing was changing and they were being beaten up on the street and in police stations. They were already angry.
Around 84 people started to question their peaceful methods. Even Crass, one of the most pacifist of them, were starting to question that stance. There was really only one thing could be done, increase the violence against the state.
Then there was the pole tax, a fight the people won. Unfortunately it would not have been won if the people didn't get angry and do to the state what the state does to them.
The press though make it seem like they are mindless violent acts, they are not. The state uses violence to solve it's problems, what choice do the people have but to fight back?

What do you mean Im completely wrong, its 10:25 pm in London, It has finished, about 2 hours ago, when 30od people were arrested. 2000 people are not protesting now, where is your source for this, I live in London it is now very quiet, 200 arrested out of 250000 this is a tiny percent, probably less than any other protest in the Uk , it is not like Libya, nore is the 20000 currently in bed going mad.edit on 26-3-2011 by holtdani because: (no reason given)
