Scientists probing the deaths of baby dolphins in the area affected by last year's BP oil spill have been ordered by the government not to speak about the project.
Wildlife biologists who have been contracted by the National Marine Fisheries Service to investigate a huge rise in dolphin mortality this year must keep their findings confidential.
The gagging order was imposed because the review of the deaths is part of the federal criminal investigation into last year's BP disaster.

I know some of these Dolphin deaths were mentioned a few weeks ago, but this seems to be updated information to what I had read - and quite disturbing.

It seems fairly obvious we've screwed things up and covered it with a hush. How very sad for all and I am sure it will have far-reaching effects around the world, not just the Gulf.

If many of these Dolphins are mis-carrying their young, I wonder if a similar thing will happen on a human level in and around the gulf-coast?

Either way, tragic.

Im thankful an investigation is going on!

Ill gladly accept the gag order if the criminal investigation leads to some charges.

The bigger story is the tagged Atlantic Tuna. They are monitored via satellite. Their spawning ground is in the Gulf of Mexico.

They're all dead. Not 1 tag has moved in the last 6 months. Go ask the scientists monitoring them.

I'd like to see proof of an investigation.I don't really believe that there isn't a coverup on going. I'd also like to see an investigation into the deaths and disease that are taking place in the gulf.Folks are getting sick down there and TPTB and the MSM are not saying anything about it. Just like they said nothing about the cleanup people for the exxon valdez dying.Something is rotten in the Gulf of Mexico and it ain't dead fish or dolphins.

The deafening silence regarding the humans who are suffering and dying in the Gulf region is much more disturbing IMO and it appears that those affected have run into brick walls when they demand answers and help. Why is there no mainstream media coverage on this issue, beyond real people posting You Tube videos? Remember the media blackout and threats of arrest last year for average citizens trying to video this horrific catastrophe? Unfortunately there are many more questions than there are answers at this point. Shall we just "follow the money trail" in hopes of finding some answers? There appears to be a lot of criminal elements working against humanity in this situation. Who can we trust now? Does anyone really care?

no part of any governmental "investigation" is going to allow any info to come out of that area....being a criminal probe is just an excuse to gag news....nothing said about fish kills can in any way affect a criminal probe into the leaks/spills....thats double-speak BS

my sister lives near Pascagoula Ms....the news gag is alive and well...so much so that people down there wont talk about it even to close relatives....

I hope the gag order is lifted once the court case is over-that may ttake a decade though knowing BP.
The truth of this has to come out one way or another.

The attitude seems to be "Screw the marine ecosystem-we want that oil"...on all levels-government,corporate.
Really,what to these monsters care if the whole ocean dies...just more chaos for them to exploit,resource prices will continue to rocket.Mmm,they love that.
And if people get sick,all the better,because the pharma companies will need to buy lots more oil to keep up with demands for all those lovely treatments.

The investigation of morbidity/mortality incidents of human or other species should not be linked to an investigation into criminal negligence concerning operation of industrial facilities to justify suppression of scientific data. Withholding data for the reason cited might be construed as a prima facie admission that there's a link between the contamination of the Gulf in the MC242 disaster and the deaths of the dolphins.

If this particular rationale is going to set a precedent, then the withholding of information concerning radioactive contamination in Japan and other countries because it will be linked to possible criminal investigations in re Fukushima is justified. Good luck with that, peeps!

Didn't see this posted anywhere, but please let me know if this is inappropriate posting. More dolphin deaths, with a bit of a twist (from the LA Times 3/26/2011):

"Three dolphins died this month during a Navy training exercise using underwater explosives near the San Diego County coast, authorities said Friday. Scientists have yet to officially determine what caused the deaths at the Silver Strand Training Complex near Coronado, but examinations of the animals showed injuries consistent with blast trauma."

Let me direct your attention to this highly credible and informative website to substantiate what I said. You just might learn more than you care to know! Apparently you have much to learn yet. FWIW, I've been following that site since the Gulf tragedy last year and learning the TRUTH through the posts there.

"We have sick people from Apalachicola, Florida, to Grand Isle, Louisiana, and it's not stopping and that's what's disturbing," Billups said. "The levels we are seeing are not dropping, and we're seeing new chemicals now. We gave some of our blood test results to [EPA head] Lisa Jackson. lets see proof of an investigation, I dont think there is going to be a real investigation because these people are much to ^powerful to let it happen. The gag order is a clear example
